Extended News Previews settings page

The Extended News Previews (ENP) report lets you see and manage your enrollment in the Extended News Previews program.

Open the ENP report

The ENP report is visible in your property only if you are invited to participate in the ENP program.

Overview

The ENP report enables you to see and sign your ENP agreement, see your agreement status, and see key dates in the ENP program timeline.

If you were offered or signed an agreement outside of Search Console, the ENP report will not allow you to see your ENP status.

Enroll in ENP

Full enrollment consists of two steps: signing your agreement, and providing payment information. Your enrollment is not complete until both steps have been completed.

If you can see your agreement signing status in the ENP settings page
  1. Read and sign the agreement if you want to participate in ENP.
  2. Set up your payment details. This allows you to be paid. You must complete your payment information within 90 days of signing your ENP agreement, or the agreement will be invalid. Click the link in the payment setup section to be routed to the third-party payment provider. All payment details are managed with this provider, who will handle any issues that arise or changes that you wish to make. Search Console (and Google) has no information about your payment configuration except whether it is valid or invalid.

If you are signing a renewal agreement and have previously successfully set up your payment account, you do not need to set up your payment details again. Your existing payment account will be used to receive payments due under the renewal agreement.

Near the end of an agreement period, look for a communication from us regarding next steps.

If you cannot see the settings page

  • If you signed an agreement offline, the ENP report cannot be used to manage signing the agreement or configuring your payment information. In this case, work with your Google contact to enable or manage your ENP agreement.
  • If the report shows that you don't have an ENP agreement, or that the agreement is managed by a parent property, then follow the instructions provided on the report.
  • The ENP program is available only to designated press publication websites located within designated locales.

If neither the Sign agreement nor the Set up account buttons are active

If the ENP settings page is visible but the Sign agreement and Set up account buttons are inactive, then you probably don't have proper permission in the property to sign the agreement. See Who can sign the agreement?

Who can sign the agreement?

You must be an owner or a full user of the property in Search Console to be able to sign the ENP agreement.

If you think that someone else should sign the agreement instead of you, then send them a link to this help page. They will need to be either an owner or full user of the Search Console property to sign the agreement. If the preferred signer is not an owner or full user of the property:

Finding your top-level domain property

If you are not using a top-level domain property, then either switch to the top-level domain property using the property selector, or add and verify a new Domain property representing your top-level domain.

Only top-level domain properties can sign an ENP agreement in Search Console

An agreement will be offered only to top-level domain properties in Search Console: no subdomains (other than www) and no URL-prefix properties can sign an agreement. If you are using a child property, open the top-level domain property to see or manage your ENP agreement.

Some examples:

Property URL Status
example.com Valid: Top-level domain property.
example.co.es Valid: Top-level domain property. The .co.es suffixes are not subdomains, and are allowed.
www.example.com Valid: Top-level domain property. www is the only allowed subdomain exception.
m.example.com Invalid: "m" is a subdomain.
https://example.com Invalid: URL-prefix property. Even though the browser requires a protocol in the address (http or https), you must create the property in Search Console without a protocol.
https://example.com/mysite Invalid: URL prefix property.

If your publication spans several top-level domains (such as example1.com, example2.com, example.co.es), you will have to sign an agreement in each top-level domain property using Search Console. If you think this is not appropriate for your organization, please contact a Google representative. Subdomains (m.example.com or foo.m.example.com) are handled by their top-level domain properties (example.com).

Error states

If a problem occurs with your agreement or payment details, you might see one of the following error messages in the ENP settings page:

  • ENP is no longer available in your country: If you see a note saying that ENP is no longer available in your country, then you won't be able to sign an agreement with Google.
  • Your agreement was invalidated: If you see a note about an invalidated agreement, read the reason to learn why it was invalidated. If it is a payment issue, please contact the third-party payment processing provider to fix the issue.
  • Payment issues: If there is a payment issue, please contact Payoneer to fix the issue.

Important deadlines and events

Here are the important deadlines and events in the ENP agreement process:

  • Invitation to join ENP: Eligible sites may receive an invitation email to sign up for the ENP program with a link to Search Console where you can read and sign the agreement and complete your payment information. If you manage your ENP participation offline with a Google representative, you won't receive an invitation email linking to Search Console, and you cannot use the Search Console ENP settings page to manage your status.
  • Agreement signing date: This is the date when you signed your ENP agreement.
  • Payment setup deadline: In most cases, you will be required to complete your ENP payment setup within a specified number of days after the agreement signing date. If you do not complete your payment setup within the deadline, then the contract will be invalidated, and you will need to re-sign the contract, and any payments accrued during that period will be lost. If a payment setup deadline exists for your property, you will see a note in the ENP settings page for that property.
  • Payment year: The ENP agreement fee is calculated for one year's time (12 months), called a payment year. The end date of the payment year is shown as the agreement expiration date. You can deduce the agreement start date, for payment calculations, as being one year before the end date, plus a day. Thus, if your contract end date is June 15, 2023, then your payment year is June 16, 2022 through June 15, 2023, inclusive.
  • Agreement end date: The date when the agreement term ends.

Payment

Setting up payment details

After you have signed the agreement, you will be able to provide your payment details in order to be paid as specified in the agreement. These details must be provided and verified within 90 days of signing the agreement, or the agreement will be invalidated. Note that verifying your payment details can take a few days.

At the current time, all payment details are managed by Payoneer, a third-party payment processing provider. Google does not currently manage any aspects of your banking details, and is only informed by Payoneer if your payment account was successfully created or if your agreement ceases to be valid. Google does not have any details about any payment issues that arise, so please address questions about your payment account status to Payoneer.

After you sign your agreement in Search Console you will be routed to the Payoneer website to provide your payment details. If you later need to modify any payment information, or if you have a problem with your payment status or signup, please speak with a Payoneer representative.

If you are signing a renewal agreement and have previously successfully set up your payment account, you do not need to set up your payment details again. Your existing Payoneer account will be used to receive payments due under the renewal agreement.

Unenrolling from ENP

If you wish to terminate your ENP agreement, contact Google (select I have an issue with Search Console > Other, and provide details). Check your contract to see how much advance notice you must give Google in order to terminate your contract.
