About Advanced mode

In Advanced mode, the animation timeline displays each element as a separate layer. Layers let you change the position of each element in the stack of elements, hide elements, or lock elements so you can work more efficiently.

When you're in Advanced mode, you can individually animate elements while optionally modifying transition times and easing for each animation. You can also add event markers and event labels to the timeline, which let you control animations with events, and use the timeline to trigger events.

The vertical line in the timeline is the playhead. It indicates the current point in the animation that's displayed in the workspace. To move the playhead, click the timeline on any track or layer, or drag the playhead to a new position.

Advanced mode timeline settings

Configure timeline settings in Advanced mode by clicking the gear icon to the left of 0s. Checkmarks indicate which settings are active.

  • Show only animated layers - Select this option to hide layers without animation.
  • Lock all layers - Select this option to lock all layers. Deselect to unlock all layers.
  • Hide all layers - Select this option to hide all elements on the workspace. Deselect to make all elements visible.
  • Snap to timeline grid - Select this option to align keyframes, event markers, and event labels with the timeline grid lines when you insert and drag them. (Enabled by default.)

Switching between Advanced mode and Quick mode

Click the Quick mode icon to switch to Quick mode, which uses a simpler animation timeline.

Each timeline location with a keyframe will be converted into a Quick mode thumbnail, preserving your animation. Complex animations may be locked against editing in Quick mode.
