Editing your ad environment

Depending on which ad environment you choose when making your ad, Google Web Designer automatically includes different pieces of enabler code. If you want to publish an ad to a different environment than you originally chose when you created it, you'll need to change some of those original tags that Google Web Designer set up for you.

Switching between AdMob, AdWords, and DoubleClick environments

AdMob, AdWords, and DoubleClick ads use the same enabler code, so ads created for any one of those environments can work in any other with minimal changes as long as the ads respect the limitations of the environment. (AdWords limitations for HTML ads can be found at the AdWords Policy page.)

To switch between AdMob, AdWords, or DoubleClick ads:

  1. Be certain that you're in Code view, then find the line at the top of the code that begins with <meta name="environment"

  2. Change the line to match the environment you plan to publish in:

    • AdWords - <meta name="environment" content="gwd-adwords">
    • AdMob - <meta name="environment" content="gwd-admob">
    • DoubleClick - <meta name="environment" content="gwd-doubleclick">
Switching from a generic ad to an AdMob, AdWords, or DoubleClick ad

Switching from a non-Google environment to one of the Google environments requires replacing a JavaScript file in the project folder, and editing the ad itself in Code view.

To switch from a generic ad environment to a Google ad environment:

  1. Remove the gwdgenericad_min.js file from the project folder.

  2. Add the gwddoubleclick_min.js file to the project folder. This is a required file.

  3. In Code view, replace the following:

    <script data-source="gwdgenericad_min.js" data-version="1" data-exports-type="gwd-genericad" type="text/javascript" src="gwdgenericad_min.js"></script>

    <script data-source="gwddoubleclick_min.js" data-version="1.8" data-exports-type="gwd-doubleclick" type="text/javascript" src="gwddoubleclick_min.js"></script>

    <gwd-doubleclick id="gwd-ad" polite-load="">

  5. Replace this closing tag:

    </gwd-genericad>
