Move an object in 3D

You can change the position of an object in three dimensions with the 3D Object Translate  tool on the left-hand toolbar. Select the element, then drag it to its new location in 3D space.

To move the object only along a single axis: Drag one of the colored translation arrows.

To move the object only along the z-axis: Hold the Ctrl (Windows) or  (Mac) key while dragging.

To reset the object to its original position: Open the Properties panel, and under Translation, rotation, and scale, select Absolute and set the translation X, Y, and Z values (the first row) to 0.

Local and global translation

In local translation mode, the 3D compass aligns with the object so the arrows appear to skew if the object is rotated. In global translation mode, the 3D compass stays aligned with the stage.

To choose your translation mode: Select Translate locally  or Translate globally  in the tool options bar at the top.

To temporarily switch to global translation mode: Press Alt (Windows) or Option (Mac).

Delta and absolute values

You can change an object's 3D position using absolute or relative values. Delta values are in relation to the object's current position, while absolute values are in relation to the stage.

Example

An object is currently translated 19px along the z-axis. If you want to move it to a position that's 30px along the z-axis, you can edit the absolute value of the Z position to 30px. To use delta values instead, enter the difference, 11px, which gives you the same result.

If Delta is selected, all the Translation, rotation, and scale properties display as 0. When you enter a new delta value, the object shifts that amount, then the value resets to zero. If you make more changes, they're applied to the object's new position.
