Easy mode for templates

Easy Mode - Google Web Designer

Easy mode provides a streamlined interface for customising select templates, so all you need to do is provide assets and adjust styles.

To create a new document using Easy mode:

  1. Open the template gallery by selecting File > New from template… from the top menu, or Use template from the start page after launching Google Web Designer.

  2. Select a template with the Easy mode badge.

  3. In the left-hand panel, set the name and location for the new document.

  4. Select Easy mode from the Mode drop-down. (If the option is greyed out, Easy mode may not be available for the specified size.)

  5. Click Create.

Documents that you create using Easy mode will subsequently open in Easy mode unless you switch them to standard mode.

To switch to standard mode:

  1. Open the document.

  2. Click the Standard mode button at the top right.

  3. In the warning dialogue, click Convert to confirm that you want to switch to standard mode.

The document opens in Google Web Designer's full-featured editing interface.

After switching to standard mode and saving the document, you won't be able to open the document in Easy mode in the future.

Editing a document in Easy mode

When you open a document in Easy mode, you'll see your document displayed in all sizes on the right, and configuration options on the left.

Configuration options

Use the configuration options in the left-hand panel to change the content and appearance of your ad. Options vary depending on the template that you're using, but may include the following:

  • File
    • Size – Select the serving sizes that you want for this ad.
  • Assets
    • Logo image – Drag or add your logo image here.
    • Product image – Drag or add your product image here.
  • Text
    • CTA text – Enter the call-to-action text and adjust its font, style, size and colour.
    • Subhead – Enter the subheading text and adjust its font, style, size and colour.
    • Headline – Enter the main headline text and adjust its font, style, size and colour.
    • Introduction text – Enter the introductory text and adjust its font, style, size and colour.
  • Style
    • Accent colour – Adjust the hue and transparency of the colour used as an accent.
    • Background – Adjust the hue and transparency of the background colour.

    • Item background – Adjust the hue and transparency of the item background colour.
  • URL
    • Exit – Enter the exit URL for this ad.

Changes for different sizes

You can make colour and text style changes to specific sizes. For example, you may want to make the headline text larger for sizes that have more room.

To edit a specific size, hover over that size, then select the tick mark that appears in the top-left corner. The tick mark turns orange and the other sizes become greyed out. You can select additional sizes and unselect sizes.

Changes that you make only apply to the selected sizes. Some configuration options may be disabled if they can't be changed for the currently selected sizes.

When no sizes are selected, your changes affect the base document and will be used as the default configuration unless specifically overridden for a size.
