Use Audio Feedback on Android Wear 1.5

Audio Feedback reads the time and notification cards on your watch and the actions you can perform on them. With Audio Feedback along with voice actions, you can perform tasks such as sending and responding to SMS messages and making and receiving calls from your watch.

Important: The instructions below are only for LG Urbane 2nd Edition LTE watches with Android Wear 1.5 and below.

Turn on Audio Feedback
To turn on Audio Feedback on your watch, you'll need sighted assistance.

Follow these steps:

  1. If your screen is dim, tap the screen to wake up the watch.
  2. Swipe down from the top of the screen.
  3. Swipe from right to left, then tap Settings Settings.
  4. Scroll until you see Accessibility, then tap it.
  5. Scroll until you see Audio Feedback.
  6. Tap Audio Feedback and then tap the check mark .

Turning on Audio Feedback automatically turns on Wrist Gestures, which make it easier to use Audio Feedback. You may also wish to turn on Power button ends call at the same time, which makes it easier to end a call without seeing the screen.

When you turn on Audio Feedback, this article will open on your phone to help you learn how to use Audio Feedback.

Control the volume & output for Audio Feedback

Unless Bluetooth headphones are connected, Audio Feedback uses the built-in speaker on your watch. You can mute the speaker with the Sound option in the Settings menu. You can also control the volume of Audio Feedback by changing the Media volume in the Sound menu in Settings.

You can use Audio Feedback with compatible Bluetooth headphones. Keep in mind that headphones may use up a lot of your watch’s battery life if you use them all day.

To connect Bluetooth headphones, follow the instructions for connecting Bluetooth headphones (you'll need sighted assistance). When your headphones are connected, the sound from Audio Feedback will go to the headphones and not to the built-in speaker.

Wake your watch to read time & date

Your watch will read the time to you whenever you wake it.

To hear the time of day, wake your watch with the tilt-to-wake gesture (if it's enabled), by tapping the screen, or by pressing the Power button.

To hear the date and time of day: After your watch is awake (you'll know because it has read the time), tap the center or top of the screen. You'll hear the date followed by the time. This feature works only when you're on the watch face (more below).

Put your watch to sleep

Your watch will go into ambient mode whenever you stop interacting with it. If you want to put your watch to sleep immediately, cover the entire screen with your hand or press the Power button on the side. When your watch is asleep, Audio Feedback will stop reading the screen.

Your watch will wake back up if you perform any of the these actions:

  • Tilt your wrist.
  • Tap the screen.
  • Press the Power button.
Navigate cards on your watch

To use Audio Feedback, it helps to know a little bit about how information is arranged on the screen. The first thing you hear when you wake up the watch is almost always the time. If you don’t hear the time when you wake the watch, the screen may have an app on it. If so, you can get back to the watch face by pressing the Power button. You'll then hear the time. You can always get back to the watch face by pressing the Power button once or twice, until you hear the time read.

Cards are organized below the watch face. Cards contain notifications and other information from apps. As you scroll through the cards  their contents are read to you.

To scroll through cards, swipe from the top or bottom of the screen. If you have wrist gestures turned on, you can slowly turn or flick your wrist away from you, then back towards you.

Sometimes an app may place multiple cards in a group called a bundle. If a stack is in focus, the first item in the stack will be read in full and you’ll hear the number of additional cards in the bundle. To expand a bundle, tap the center of the screen or hold your arm in front of you and pivot your arm down quickly. After you've expanded a bundle, you can scroll through each card in the same way as other cards.

Some cards have additional information or actions you can perform. You can find these when you swipe left. If the card has actions, they'll be announced as “action.” Perform these actions by tapping the center of the screen. Some actions aren't supported by Audio Feedback.

You can dismiss cards, by swiping right. When you dismiss a card on your watch, the notification is dismissed on your phone as well.

When you reach the bottom of the cards, you'll hear a tone. When you reach the top, you'll hear the time.

Make & receive calls

Watches with cellular features allow you to make and receive calls directly from the watch.

To make a call, use the following voice action: “OK Google, call <name of contact>.” This will use the list of contacts synced from your phone and call that contact on your watch. When Audio Feedback is on, this voice action will always make the call from the watch.

When you receive a call, your watch will vibrate and announce the caller’s contact name or number. To answer, swipe from right to left. To reject the call, swipe from left to right.

To end a call, we recommend you turn on the Power button ends call option. Follow these steps (you will need sighted assistance):

  1. If your screen is dim, tap the screen to wake up the watch.
  2. Swipe down from the top of the screen.
  3. Swipe from right to left, then tap Settings Settings.
  4. Scroll until you see Accessibility, then tap it.
  5. Scroll until you see Power button ends call.
  6. Tap Power button ends call to turn it on and off.
Send & receive SMS messages

Watches with cellular features allow you to send and receive SMS messages directly from the watch.

When you receive SMS messages, they'll come in as cards in the stream. The content of the card will be read out to you. You can reply when you swipe from right to left or hold your arm in front of you and pivot your arm down quickly.

To send SMS messages, use one of the following voice actions: “Send a message” or “Send a message to <contact>: <message>.” The message will be read back to you for confirmation and then sent.
