Tips & tricks

Send emoji messages, check your upcoming schedule, and get things done all from your watch.

Turn off the screen temporarily

You can turn off your watch’s screen temporarily (or put it in Theater mode), so it doesn’t light up or show notifications, even if you move your wrist or tap the screen.

To turn off your screen temporarily:

  1. If your screen is dim, tap it to wake up the watch.
  2. Swipe down from the top of the screen.
  3. Tap Theater mode Theater mode.
    • If you don't see Theater mode, tap Brightness Brightness and then Theater mode Theater mode.

To turn your screen back on:

  • If your watch has a power button, press it once.
  • If your watch doesn't have a power button, tap the screen repeatedly until it wakes up.

Stop watch vibrations

To stop your watch from vibrating when you get a notification, turn on Do Not Disturb (DND).

  1. If the screen is dim, tap it to wake up the watch.
  2. While using your watch, swipe down from the top of the screen.
  3. Tap Do Not Disturb Do not disturb.
    • Optional for Wear 2: To choose which notifications to get when you have DND turned on, swipe down from the top of the screen and tap Settings Settings and then Notifications and then Do not disturb unless...

You can choose to have calls from favorites, reminders, and events vibrate your watch even when Do Not Disturb is turned on. Alarms will vibrate your watch even when DND is turned on.

Tip: Watches paired with an iPhone won't sync notification settings with the phone.

Get help from the Google app

The Assistant on the watch can help you with many tasks throughout your day. To see what it can do:

  1. If the screen is dim, press the power button to wake up your watch.
  2. Swipe right until you see the Assistant screen.
  3. Tap the microphone and say "What can you do?"

You’ll see the Assistant suggest more things you can do, like "set an alarm" or "send a message". Tap an action to do it.

See personalized content from the Assistant

When you swipe your watch screen to the right, under the microphone you’ll see helpful content when it’s relevant. The information comes from your emails, the agenda app, and data from Google Maps.

If you then swipe up, you’ll see a list of info about restaurant, event, and travel reservations, as well as shipments, agenda items, commutes, and weather. For more details, tap the info.
