Sound suddenly too low to really hear

I am a Waze user for years. Yesterday out of the blue sound is very low.
Android, pixel 6 pro.
I have adjusted volume in and out of app.
No android auto, sound plays to phone speaker (definitely sound on other apps)
Have tried different voices.
Have cleared catch and eventually reinstalled.
I never made any changes which leads me to believe Waze updated and this may be a bug?

I had the same problem on my Samsung A32.  Tried Settings >> Voice and Sound >> Play Sound to Speaker OFF.  It worked and the sound returned at normal levels through the phone speaker.  I hope it works for you too.

Seems counterintuitive to "turn off" sound to phone speaker, but it also solved my problem on a Pixel 4XL. With that fix, the navigation sound now comes through the bottom speakers rather than through the "mic" on top. Thanks for the solution!

I turn off the sound to phone speaker and tried the app on my Samsung A32 5G. It worked sitting in my living room but not in my vehicle. With a little experimenting I found I also had to turn off the blue tooth connection in my vehicle and then the app sound worked. After checking the sound, I turned the blue tooth back on and the phone audio continued to work. I hope Waze engineers are reading this

The issue I have that when you connect to a Bluetooth (like in a car) the audio will play via the sound system Bluetooth and not the phone speaker. While I am not on Bluetooth this would be a fix but since I am always on Bluetooth while driving with waze this will not be my resolution.

Same here on my Samsung S10+... right after the most recent Waze Android update.  Then I read the prior comment and toggled Play Sound to Speaker to off.  It worked!  Changed it back to on and it continued to work UNTIL I shut down Waze and restarted. Upon restart volume was again too low.  Keeping it set to off does work when restarting; but I am concerned that this will cause the sound to come from my car system over Bluetooth, which is not what I want.  I prefer the sound to work properly from my phone speaker.  Hope that this is corrected soon with a new update.

David is correct... I hadn't  realized that the sound is now coming from the phone earpiece rather than the speaker when play sound to speaker is on, thus the low volume.  It now does come through speaker when sound to speaker is off, but I have not yet tried to see what happens when connected to car audio via Bluetooth.  If this site is being monitored by Waze programmers... please work on an update to resolve this bug caused by the last update.

Thank you for this! I was scratching my head on why my volume was so low the last couple days and finally got it back. I did have to leave it on off, otherwise it kept going back to low volume when I open the app the next time, same as your experience.

I just experienced the same issue for the first time today December 21st/ 2024. I followed all instructions I have my phone not connected to Bluetooth. I have the toggle switch on to have sound come through speaker of phone. As all the other customers have mentioned I can hear the WAZE speaker however. The volume is impossibly low. Please correct this issue.

I un-installed and reinstalled and volume is loud and then toggle play through speaker and connect to car Bluetooth and it does not come through phone speaker.

Same issue on Motorola Android phone.  Can no longer get Waze voice directions to come thru phone when connected to car Bluetooth either with the Waze setting Play SOund to Phone Speaker on or off.
