Sound suddenly too low to really hear

I am a Waze user for years. Yesterday out of the blue sound is very low.
Android, pixel 6 pro.
I have adjusted volume in and out of app.
No android auto, sound plays to phone speaker (definitely sound on other apps)
Have tried different voices.
Have cleared catch and eventually reinstalled.
I never made any changes which leads me to believe Waze updated and this may be a bug?

I had the same problem on my Samsung A32.  Tried Settings >> Voice and Sound >> Play Sound to Speaker OFF.  It worked and the sound returned at normal levels through the phone speaker.  I hope it works for you too.

Voice on mine has just stopped. .Samsung s 22. .help!

Same issue on my Samsung s22 ultra. Note that if I switch to Google maps I'm still able to independently control the volume. When a  navigation voice is happening I can adjust the volume knob and I get a pop-up that says I'm adjusting the prompt volume as I would expect. It used to do that while using Waze but after the latest update and no longer get that separation and the audio is so quiet that I almost cannot hear it while driving.

I also can confirm that deleting the cache and data and even reinstalling does not fix the issue

Same here. I have tried all of the above without success on a Samsung A32.

Samsung Note 20 ultra, same problem. Began December 2024, navigation voice was all of a sudden to low to hear easily. I have the latest version 5.2.1.0. I connect the phone to car bluetooth for phone calls but I have waze voice navigation play through the phone speaker. Edit: I'll try turning off 'play sound to phone speaker' tomorrow. See if that corrects the issue for me.

New version 5.2.5.1...  Waze still ignoring 'Play Sound to Phone Speaker' when on a call over Bluetooth, and will play guidance through car speakers (interrupting phone call).  Does play through phone speaker correctly when 'not' on a call over Bluetooth.   Wish they would fix this.  Will wait a bit longer before downgrading again to an older version.  Wondering if the developers are even monitoring this site.

How do I downgrade to v5.2.0.3? Where is it? Thanks.
Jan 18, 2025
You need to "sideload" the older version after deleting the most current version from your phone.  Search "sideloading" for Android .apk packages.  There is lots of information on the internet.

I downloaded the v5.2.0.3 package from APKMirror then used App Manager by AndroidDeveloperLB to install it.

It should be noted that my phone is a Google Pixel and it solved the problem on my phone.

If you are using a Samsung phone, you can go to phone settings>Sounds and vibration>Separate app sound. Add Waze and set it to phone.

Then go in Waze and turn off Play Sound to speaker. Then restart the app.

Waze still not playing to phone speaker on android phones. iPhones seems to be working.

I have a similar problem, identical actually! I think it was right around the same day.

I'm on a galaxy s24 ultra using Android Auto. YouTube music to Android Auto is nice and loud. Waze Volume very quiet, but if I crank the music volume way up I can hear it.

I have messed with all the available settings on car, infotainment unit, Waze on the phone, my phone settings, I've looked about everywhere. Nothing bring the volume back.

For example I used to get "disabled vehicle ahead" the warning would lower the music volume and come out nice and loud. Now it comes out like a quiet whisper. I have to almost mad my music volume to hear it.

Any other suggestions would be awesome!

This just happened to us today; was working fine while in our house, got into the car to go on a trip and volume was at a whisper (using sound to speaker - I like to be able to navigate and listen to the radio/take a hands-free phone call at the same time).  Was frustrated all day.  Finally got to our hotel, connected to WiFi and went to the Play Store and installed the latest update (5.2.5.1), now volume seems to be working again.  YMMV, but that seemed to work for us.

Correction - I take it back.  Updating the app got the volume to work in the hotel room, briefly, but once we got in the car, it was silence, not just quiet.  Now home, it (volume through phone speaker) works in the house, and now seems to be working in the car again (tried without and with phone paired Bluetooth to the car)...  but we don't need it at home, and we were relying on it for our trip.  Not sure what the issue was, so I'm not sure if it will recur.  Disappointed.

I have the same problem

Waze updated to version 5.3.0.2 and the sound problem is still there. There is no sound from the phone or car speakers if bluetooth is connected to the car. FIX THIS! This is unacceptable development.

I have the same problem using Alexa Auto - the volume is too low even on maximum when using default system speaker. And while switching to phone speaker improved the volume, it then shuts out/off the music altogether when Waze speaks. Extremely annoying and distracting. Had to switch back to barely audible.

Yea so...

This was rly bad for me this week on my 200m trip.

I just removed the app and put a Sept 2024 v back on. It's not viable in its current state.

All alerts are not audible, speed, pot holes etc.

Go to Settings, Sounds & Vibration, Volume. Set Media to the volume you like. Seems lately after an update, it goes to the default which is a much lower volume

Having the same problem with iPhone 14 Plus. Please help!!!

It's like people that are hired to make mobile apps don't understand anything and have never used a navigation device or any computer before. Waze has terrible audio, for some reason, in every way. The solution would be to just have a normal articulate person use the app while driving, and then tell a software engineer what's wrong with the app. Then, it could be fixed. What in the world are they doing?
Mar 30, 2025
Require the software engineer to take a randomly programmed 200 mile drive usonly waze through Android auto. Then tell him evhas to repeat it daily, to a different random location, daily until it can be heard properly.

Having the same problem 3/18/25. Wasted an hour adjusting every volume setting in my phone and car. Deleting this junk app. Unfortunate.

Set navigation to somewhere and start it. The moment you hear the voice directions, click the phone's volume (this side) button. The sound is reduced if you reduce the sound of the handset when talking on the phone. I have no idea why it is. I hope it is clear because I use a google translator
