Carpool retirement FAQs

Why is Waze shutting down Carpool?

We want to continue to make a real-world impact by doubling down on helping cities address mobility problems such as congestion, safety, sustainability and cost. In order for us to achieve this we will be retiring the Waze Carpool service to focus the company’s efforts on better supporting drivers on the road today.

We are proud of what we accomplished through Waze Carpool, and are grateful to the Carpool community for sharing drives and working together to take cars off the road.

What is the final date the service will be operating?

Waze Carpool will be retired by October 31, 2022.

Can I still get technical support in the meantime?

Yes, you can get support by filing a ticket.

As a driver, will I receive the ride payment that is in my current balance?

Yes, you will receive your balance through gPay as normal. Information on how to set up your gPay account can be found here.

Is this related to the ongoing financial crisis?

Retiring Waze Carpool is a strategic decision that will enable us to continue to make a real-world impact. This aligns with the company’s efforts to better support drivers on the road today, and help cities address mobility problems such as congestion, safety, sustainability and cost.

What will Waze focus on instead?

We want to continue to make a real-world impact by focusing the company’s efforts on better supporting drivers on the road today and helping cities address mobility problems such as congestion, safety, sustainability and cost.

Is Waze going to develop another service in future to enable shared rides?

We are refocusing our resources on continuing to make a real-world impact by doubling down on ways to better support drivers on the road today and helping cities address mobility problems such as congestion, safety, sustainability and cost.
