Send, request, receive, or withdraw money

You can use Google Wallet to send, request, or receive money. There are no fees to make a transaction.

If you have money stored in Wallet, you can transfer it to a bank account.

If you’re having problems completing a transaction, here are a list of likely reasons.

Send money

When you send money to someone using a debit card or your Wallet Balance, they’ll typically get it within minutes.

If they don’t already use Wallet and don't claim it within 14 days, the money will be returned to you.

Send money using your mobile device
  1. Open the Wallet app.
  2. Tap $0 and enter the amount you want to send.
  3. Tap Send.
  4. Enter your recipient's name, email address, or phone number.
  5. Confirm the amount and your payment method. You can also include a memo.
  6. Tap Send.
    • If you made a mistake or changed your mind, you have a few seconds to tap Cancel transfer.
Send money using your computer
  1. Visit wallet.google.com.
  2. Click $0 and enter the amount you want to send.
  3. Enter your recipient's name, email address, or phone number.
  4. Confirm the amount and your payment method. You can also include a memo.
  5. Click Send.
    • If you made a mistake or changed your mind, you have a few seconds to tap Cancel transfer.

Limits

  • You can’t send more than $9,999 USD per single transaction or more than $50,000 USD per 5-day period.
  • If you live in Florida, there's a limit of $3,000 USD every 24 hours.

Note: Google Wallet transactions are covered by Google Wallet Fraud Protection, even when you send money to a phone number or non-Gmail address. Transactions are also watched 24/7 for fraudulent or unauthorized activity.

Request money or pay a request

Request money from someone

Note: You can only request money from someone using the Wallet app.

  1. Open the Wallet app.
  2. Tap $0 and enter the amount you want to request.
  3. Tap Request.
  4. Enter your recipient's name or email address.
  5. Confirm the amount. You can also include a memo.
  6. Tap Request.

Cancel a request or send a reminder

  1. Open the Wallet app.
  2. Under "Activity," choose the transaction.
  3. Tap Cancel or Send reminder.
Pay a request

If you get a money request email or notification from Wallet, you can pay it by clicking on the link in the email or following these instructions.

  1. Open the Wallet app.
  2. Tap or click Notifications Notifications.
  3. In the request notification, tap or click Settle up.
  4. Confirm the amount and your payment method.
  5. Tap or click Send.

Receive money

When someone sends you money through Wallet, you'll get an email or text message from Google with instructions on how to get the money.

To claim money:

  1. In the notification email, tap or click Claim money and and check that it opens the Wallet app or wallet.google.com.
    • By text: See instructions below.
  2. The next time you get money, open the Wallet app or sign in to wallet.google.com to view your transaction.
    • If you’ve set a default payment method, any money you receive will go directly to it.

Claim money by text

You can add a phone number to your account if someone sends money to the number first. First, you’ll need to click the link in the text from 445-67 to claim your money.

Add a phone number

After the first time you accept money sent to your phone number, you can link the phone number to your Google Account. When someone sends money to your number in the future, the money is automatically sent to your default payment method.

  1. In the Wallet app, tap Notifications Notifications.
  2. Tap Link phone number.
Remove a phone number
  1. Open the Wallet app.
  2. Tap Menu Menu.
  3. Tap Settings > Phone number.
  4. Next to the phone number, tap Remove.
  5. To confirm, tap Remove.

You can also unlink your phone number by texting "UNLINK" to 445-67.

Withdraw money

You can transfer money from your Wallet Balance to your linked bank account or debit card for free. Transfers to your debit card typically complete within minutes but may take up to 24 hours for some banks. Transfers to a bank account are usually done within 3 business days.

To withdraw money from your Wallet Balance:

  1. Open the Wallet app or visit wallet.google.com.
  2. In the Wallet app at the top of the home screen, tap Balance > Cash out. On your computer, click Menu Menu > Cash out.
  3. Choose the payment method you want to transfer to.
  4. Enter the amount.
  5. Tap or click Cash out.
First time receiving money

If you’re receiving money for the first time, you can transfer it directly to your bank account without verifying your identity if:

  • The amount is less than $1,000.
  • You’ve received less than $5,000 total.

When you reach any of these limits, you'll have to verify your identity before you can transfer money to an eligible payment method.

Withdrawal limits

Bank account transfer: Limit of $10,000 USD per single transaction and $50,000 USD per 5-day period.

Debit card transfer: Limit of $2,500 USD per transaction and $10,000 USD per 30-day period.

If you live in Florida: You can withdraw up to $3,000 USD every 24 hours. Debit card limits still apply.
