Add a payment method

You can add a payment method with these logos to your Wallet:

  • MasterCard
  • Visa
  • Discover

Note: Credit and prepaid cards can't be used to send money to friends.

Add or update a debit card

On your phone

Add a card

  1. Open the Wallet app Google Wallet app.
  2. Tap Menu Menu and thenSettings and then Payment methods.
  3. At the bottom, tap Add Add and thenAdd debit card.
  4. Enter your card details. To take a photo of your card, tap Take a photo Edit photo.
  5. Tap Save.

To help identify your cards, add a card nickname.

Update or delete a card

  1. Follow steps 1-2 above.
  2. Tap a card you’d like to change.
  3. Tap Edit Edit.
  4. After you've made your changes, tap Update.
You can delete a card by tapping Remove from Wallet.

On your computer

  1. Open wallet.google.com.
  2. Sign in to your Google Account.
  3. On the left, click Payment methods.
  4. Click Add a payment method.
  5. Select Credit or debit card and enter your payment details.
  6. Click Save.

Update or delete a card

  1. Follow steps 1-3 above.
  2. Click a card you’d like to change.
  3. Click Edit or Remove.

Link and verify a bank account

You can also link your bank account, then verify it to continue using it.

On your phone

  1. Open the Google Wallet app Google Wallet app.
  2. Tap Menu Menu and thenSettings and then Payment methods.
  3. At the bottom, Add Add and thenAdd bank account.
  4. Enter the routing and account numbers for your bank account. You can find this information on a check or contact your bank.
  5. Tap Next.

On your computer

  1. Open wallet.google.com.
  2. Sign in to your Google Account.
  3. On the left, click Payment methods.
  4. Click Add a payment method.
  5. Select Bank account and enter your payment details.
  6. Click Save.

Update a bank account

To update a bank account, remove the current linked account, then link a new bank account.

Verify your bank account

If your bank offers instant verification, you’ll see an option to verify your bank and will be asked to sign in to your bank account.

If your bank doesn’t offer instant verification or you choose test deposit:

 
  1. Google will make a small deposit in your bank account, which you should see after 2-3 days.
  2. To verify your bank information, confirm the deposit amount in your Google Wallet.

Set a default payment method

  1. Open the Wallet app Google Wallet app.
  2. Tap Menu Menu and thenSettings and then Payment methods.
  3. Tap the payment method you want to make default.
  4. Tap Set as default.

If you set a default payment method, any money received will be automatically sent to that payment method. You can change the default payment method any time in the Wallet app.

Payment methods that aren’t accepted

These payment methods can't be added to your Wallet:

  • Health Savings Account (HSA) cards
  • Transit cards
  • Checks
  • Money orders, including Western Union and Money Gram
  • Escrow types of payments
