How long it takes to send or receive money

For the best Google Wallet experience, we recommend using a debit card for all transactions. With a debit card, sending and receiving money is almost always instant.

Transfer times vary depending on the type of payment method you use.

Transfer times

Debit card (instant)

Money usually transfers from or to your debit card account within minutes when:

  • You send it to someone.
  • Someone sends it to you and your debit card is set as your default payment method.
  • You manually transfer it to your debit card.

In rare cases, you may not see the charge or credit on your account for up to 24 hours.

Bank account (can take longer)

When you send money using a bank account, your account will usually be charged within minutes. In rare cases, the money may not be taken out of your account for up to 4 days.

When receiving, money usually appears in your account in 2-3 days when:

  • Someone sends it to you and a bank account is set as your default payment method.
  • You manually transfer money to a bank account.

Wallet Balance (instant)

Money usually transfers from or to your Wallet Balance instantly when:

  • You send it to someone.
  • Someone sends it to you and Wallet Balance is set as your default payment method.
  • You manually transfer money to a Wallet Balance.

Canceled transactions

If you cancel money you sent using a debit card or Wallet Balance, the money will return to your account within 24 hours. If you cancel money you sent using a bank account, it’ll take 7–10 days for the money to appear in your account.
