Important: A digital ID in Google Wallet does not replace your physical Aadhaar card.
Your Aadhaar number is a 12-digit random number issued by the UIDAI (“Authority”) to the residents of India after satisfying the verification process laid down by the Authority.
To add your Aadhaar card to Google Wallet, you’ll need the following:
- An Android 9 phone or higher. Learn how to check and update your Android version.
- A screen lock set for security. Learn how to set a screen lock.
- The Aadhaar App installed and signed in to issue credentials (available for India users only).
Add an Aadhaar card to Google Wallet
You can add your card to Google Wallet from:
- The official Aadhaar app
- The Google Wallet app
From the Aadhaar App
- Open the official Aadhaar app.
- Sign in and verify your identity.
- Tap Add to Wallet and select Google Wallet.
- Tap Continue.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to add Aadhaar to Wallet.
From the Google Wallet app

- Tap Aadhaar to be redirected to the Aadhaar app.
- If you have not downloaded the app, you’ll be redirected to the Play Store.
- Enter your details to sign in. Follow steps 2-5 above ‘From the Aadhaar card’.
Tip: If you get a "Reviewing your request" message, the system is checking your info. You will receive a notification when it is ready.
Use your Aadhaar card
To verify your identity in person or remotely, you can use your Aadhaar in Google Wallet instead of your physical card. Your Aadhaar Digital ID is a valid document issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India with the same restrictions as your physical identification card.
Use remotely onlineSome apps and websites accept Aadhaar Digital ID in Google Wallet for identity and age verification. If the app accepts digital IDs through Google Wallet, you'll be asked if you want to use your digital ID in Google Wallet during the app’s verification process. You can review the info that will be shared with the app and agree to share before your info is shared. Google Wallet will also ask you to authenticate.
Tip: To use your digital ID with other apps, follow the steps in your connected app as they vary from app to app.
- Hold the back of your phone close to the NFC terminal.
- Follow the instructions that appear on your phone or the terminal:
- On the terminal: add your PIN if requested.
- On your phone: review the info that will be shared. Tap Continue if you want to proceed or tap Cancel if you don't want to share this information.
- Follow the on-screen authentication steps in Google Wallet.
- Check the confirmation on your phone or the terminal.
Tip: If you cannot share your ID:
- Try to hold your phone in a different way. Your NFC antenna could be near the top or bottom of your device.
- Hold your phone closer to the reader.
- For a few extra seconds, hold your phone to the reader.
- Open the Google Wallet app.
- Scroll to find your ID.
- Tap the QR symbol on the top right of your ID card.
- Allow the merchant to scan the QR code on your ID.
- Review the info on the phone that will be shared.
- Tap Share if you want to proceed or tap Cancel if you don’t want to share the info.
- Follow the on-screen authentication steps in Google Wallet.
- To confirm that the info was shared, wait for the blue check mark.
Tip: If the back of your license won’t scan, try to:
- Keep the card steady or place it on a flat surface.
- Scan the card in a well-lit location.
- Make sure that the QR code is clearly visible. Zoom in on the QR code if needed.
Manage your Aadhaar card
Important: Your Digital ID is encrypted and saved on your device in Google Wallet. Because the ID or license is saved locally on your device and not in your Google Account, and is also sensitive data, you cannot use Google's Takeout feature to export and download a copy of your ID contents.
View your Aadhaar card- Open the Google Wallet app.
- Scroll down to find your Aadhaar card and tap on it.
- Authenticate your device.
- Open the Google Wallet app.
- Tap on your Aadhaar card.
- Tap More.
- Tap Remove.
- Tap Confirm.
Remove your ID online remotely
- Go to myaccount.google.com.
- Tap Security & sign-in.
- Scroll to "IDs” then tap Manage IDs.
- Select the ID you want to remove.
- Next to the ID Pass, tap Delete

- Tap Confirm.
Manage activity log in the Google Wallet app
Important: This feature is inactive until you enable it.
Turn on & view your activity log data- Open the Google Wallet app.
- Scroll to find your “ID” then tap your ID.
- Tap More
View and manage activity.
- Verify it’s you.
- Turn on Activity history.
Tip: You can find where you shared your IDs in your activity log in the Google Wallet app.
- Open the Google Wallet app.
- Scroll to find your “ID” then tap your ID.
- Tap More
View and manage activity.
- Verify it’s you.
- At the top right, tap Download.
Important: Only you can see your activity history once you verify your identity. If you turn off activity history, all ID activity on that device will be deleted.
- Open the Google Wallet app.

Frequently asked questions
Is my Aadhaar safe when I put it in Google Wallet?IDs saved in Google Wallet are stored encrypted. Personal identification information like names and addresses are only shared when you choose to share them with explicit consent.
The Aadhaar card cannot be used on the device without user authorization in Google Wallet. If you lose your phone, you must follow the instructions above to remove your Aadhaar card.
Currently, you can only add one Aadhaar card associated with your account to your device.
