Learn about Automated Face Matching with Biometric Tech for ID pass

When you set up an ID pass, you can choose to verify your identity with automated face matching using biometric tech or with a manual review. If you choose automated face matching, we can verify you within seconds. If you’d prefer to have a human verify your identity, you can choose a manual review, which usually takes no more than 30 minutes.

How automated face matching works

If you choose automated matching using biometric tech, we’ll create face templates using the live video of your face that you upload and your passport photo. Face templates are numeric representations of these images of your face, which can be used to compare their similarity and verify that the images you upload depict the same person.

If automated matching is unable to match your face, human reviewers will manually verify your identity.

Retention policy for automated matching data

After we’ve completed verification and confirmed the validity of your request, we’ll delete your face templates and any biometric data.
