I fell for a google scam on my phone for craiglist. They were texting me and sent me a verification code, i stupidly sent it back to them not realizing it was a scam. How do I know if my phone number will be used for scamming calls or text. I don't even have a google voice?

No it wasn't like that. They sent me a verification code, it was a five or six digit I don't remember. There was no calling involved-i immediately blocked the number not thinking it was a scam. Now what?

If you did nothing with the code, then nothing happened at all, and you can get on with life; you're safe.

Lesson:  be more careful when interacting with strangers online especially on the cesspool of Craigslist.

Hi, I fell for the scam and gave out the code. Shortly after that, I realized my mistake and went back to my computer, changed my email password etc. The number was still linked to my GV#1 account. I created another GV#2 account and tried to link it to the new GV#2 account. It displayed the 'Claim the number' message and after I hit 'yes', the number was linked to the new GV#2 account. It was just a test to make sure that I still have the number. So, now I unlinked the number for the new GV#2 account and tried to link it to the original account again. I used my friend's number to link the account first and then add my number to it. It all worked fine. I removed the friends number and also removed and added my number a couple to times. Now the number is linked to GV#1 account. Just to make sure that I have the number, I created another GV#3 account and tried to link the number to GV#2 and GV#3. Lone behold, the number got linked with other two accounts as well. So, now my number is linked with 3 GV accounts! and THE SCARY PART IS that I did not receive any notification of 'Someone claimed your number... etc' or any other notification about my number being linked to multiple accounts except for asking the verification codes.
SO, THE STATEMENT IS NOT TRUE THAT THE GOOGLE PREVENTS THE NUMBER TO BE LINKED TO MULTIPLE GV ACCOUNTS!

I've linked my number back to my original GV#1 account. How do I know that my number is not linked with other scammer's accounts?
Is it possible that my number might still be linked with the scammer's GV account even though I am able to link it with my GV account as well?
