Incoming calls to GV # that ring to my mobile device say Voicemail

Question

Hi everyone I have a GV number with the app on my mobile device. I have had calls forwarded to my mobile device, but when someone calls my GV, and it rings through to my mobile device, the caller ID shows my Voicemail as the incoming caller.
Is there a way to get GV set up so that if someone calls my GV, my mobile device will ring with that persons number as the caller ID? 
I would like to be able to answer the incoming forwarded call based on who is calling my GV. But since it always says Voicemail, I can't tell who's calling until I answer.
I tried turning call forwarding off. But my device with GV installed doesn't ring when I get a GV call. It just shows a missed afterwards.
Please let me know if I can be any more clear. Thanks for the help

Sure, you can change that behavior.  Sign into the correct Google/Gmail account that holds your Google Voice phone number and go to Settings:  https://voice.google.com/settings
