Hi Galy,

Call screening in Google Voice has recently changed.  Now when you have it enabled, it will prompt any caller not in your Contacts list to say their name.  If the caller is in your Contacts, then it will not prompt them to state their name.  You can access your contacts at https://contacts.google.com/ to add callers.

Hope this explanation helps clarify what has happened, and why your callers are being prompted to state their names.

I have the same problem. I need the options to press 1 and NOT for people to say their names. I don't care about the name of who is calling. I just need to know the call is from my google number and not my own phone number. And by having the option to press 1 also tells me it's my google phone number thats being called.
Everything was working fine until a week or two ago. I need that option menu to press 1 to answers.

Speak for yourself, not the collective "we" that you don't represent.  The new behavior described below was introduced months ago, and after some initial confusion and complaints, there have been very few, out of the many millions of Google Voice users, who are unhappy about this.

This is a volunteer-run, user-to-user help forum.  Google does not use this forum to collect user feedback, and they will not take action on this particular change.

Here is how call screening now works, assuming you have turned it on in Google Voice settings:  all calls, from all callers, will be screened.  "Screened" is defined as:  when you answer the call, Google Voice will always announce "Call from..." and then ask you to decide -- press 1 to accept the call and talk to the caller, or press 2 to send the caller to your Google Voice voicemail.
  • If the calling phone number is not in your Google Contacts, then that caller will be asked to state their name before the call rings on your end.  Google Voice will play back whatever the caller said, after "Call from..."  It will not save their name, and they will be asked to speak their name on every subsequent call.
  • If the calling phone number is in your Google Contacts, then the caller will not be asked to speak their name.  Instead, Google Voice will use that contact's information with text-to-speech, to say the name you entered in their contact.
If you get a call from someone that you expect to communicate with regularly, simply add their name and number to your Google Contacts.

This is documented in the help page that I linked above.

This is the consumer version of Google Voice.  It is not intended for business use. I suggest that you consider Google's new business-class Google Voice for G Suite customers.
