Cannot transfer Google Voice number from one account to another 0 Recommended Answers 7 Replies 4 Upvotes

I tried following the instructions to transfer a Google Voice number from one @gmail.com account to another @gmail.com (not G Suite accounts).  However, when going to the settings under Legacy Google Voice, there is no "Phones" tab.  Please advise how to make this proper transfer.

Thanks for posting in the Google Voice Community Forum
  1. On your computer, open Google Voice. Sign in with your account you use with GV.
  2. At the top left, click Menu Menu and then Legacy Google Voice. Google Voice will look different, but you're in the right place.
  3. At the top right, click Settings Settings and then Settings.
  4. Click the "Phones" tab.
  5. Next to your Google Voice number, click Transfer, then follow the onscreen instructions.
If you do not see the Phones tab, then make sure you are signed into the correct account. Sometimes it is easier to sign into two accounts using different browsers.

I tried these steps multiple times with no success. But I have actually figured it out by going to the regular settings in the current Google Voice, clicking "Transfer" and it takes you to the page with the Phones tab. Those directions are inaccurate.

@Kaysie Jose  correct, going to https://voice.google.com/settings will show you the transfer option.

I have the same problem and I do not understand why, I had transferred numbers before and I didn't have problems. Not sure why now I can not do it, maybe is because the account I'm transferring to had a google number before but now it doesn't have the number. Is making me crazy trying to figure out why is not transferring this time.

all i see are a billing and account tabs.  the phone numbers listed on the billing are the cell numbers of the people who are linked to the GV number, and are listed as phone 1 and phone 3?

I have the same problem... I can not receive the transfer for google voice OR neither create a new google voice. I had google voice before with the same account but I stop using google voice for over a year and old number was transfer to another person, now I need google voice back in my e-mail and I do not know what I'm doing wrong. Please I need urgent help.

@baldybeardedguy - I know, but the directions you previously gave were inaccurate because you say you need to go to Google Voice Legacy first to access the Phone tab.  But when you do that, there is no Phone tab.

@Tim Killoran - sounds like you have the same issue. What you will need to do instead is go to Google Voice (the new one, not Legacy) and click the Settings icon on the top right.  It will show your Google Voice number and underneath that buttons for Change, Transfer, Delete.  When you click Transfer, then you will see the Phones tab and you can follow the directions from there.
