Must I Keep My "Trash" Cell? 0 Recommended Answers 1 Reply 0 Upvotes

In order to setup and connect my OBi202 device, I created a Google Account, including Google Voice.  To accomplish this, though not a cell phone user, I found that verifying the chosen Google Voice number required another phone number with texting.  I do not use cell phones and this place I live in never had a landline.  So, I purchased the cheapest cell phone I could find with these capabilities only for this setup purpose.  Now, my settings have my Google Voice number linked to this cell.  Do I have to keep this cell phone that I originally intended to trash?  I have not begun OBi202 setup yet.  Do I have to keep that cell phone number linked to my Google Voice settings?  Will I need that cell phone number within the OBi202 setup?  As you can guess, I intend to have fax, but having not arranged for it, having now just learned that Google Voice cannot handle fax.  Thank you in advance.

Hi Louis Toscano, welcome to the Google Voice community forum!
Google Voice is not intended to be used as a free phone service.  It is a call management, and call forwarding service.  Although you do not need to keep your cell phone linked, that is the intended purpose of Google Voice.
Hope this answers your question.
