How can I block incoming text messages to my Google voice number from an unwanted caller? 2 Recommended Answers 23 Replies 31 Upvotes

I have opened the Messages tab and clicked on the unwanted spam text message, as per
"Block unwanted calls, abuse, and spam". However, when I click on the "More Options" symbol, there is no option to "Block number"! What can I do to stop these annoying text messages from the unwanted sender?

Thanks for posting in the Google Voice Community Forum
On your computer, please open Chrome.
  1. Then go to Google Voice (https://voice.google.com/) and log into your Google Voice account.
  2. Click on Messages (https://voice.google.com/u/0/messages)
  3. Click on the message you want to block.
  4. Click More More
Post a screenshot of what you see (including the open menu), masking out any private info, but do leave the last 4 digits of any phone numbers visible.

Thanks for your reply.  Sorry for the delay -- it went to my Earthlink Spam folder.

Here is the screenshot you requested.  The options listed under "More" are People, Archive and Delete.  There is no option to Block Number.  Perhaps that has to do with there being so many numbers in the Group message.  The number I want to block is the sender's number (813-575-2186).  Any further help appreciated!

Sorry, but you cannot block GROUP messages. You have to block each individual phone number.
Blocking only works for 1:1 SMS.
I also suggest removing your number from the platform that you are getting these messages from to see if that helps.
Sorry this is not the answer you are hoping for.

Is there a way I can block each individual phone number in these group messages that I am getting?  Or somehow to enter the originating phone number for these messages (813-575-2186) in a way that will result in its being blocked?

I'm not sure what you mean by removing my number from the platform I am getting these messages from.  For each of the three Google Voice group messages that you can see in the screenshot, I have received an e-mail from Google Voice saying:

"You have received a new group message on your Google Voice number. To view this conversation and respond, launch Google Voice (https://voice.google.com) on your mobile device or computer."

As far as I know, Google Voice is the platform that I am getting these messages from.  Do you mean that I should remove or delete my Google Voice number?

These annoying group messages say "You have 11 messages on facebook".  I have not used my Google Voice number on Facebook, nor have I used it on any other "platform" I can think of.

Any further thoughts about how I can stop these messages?  It sounds from your most recent reply that there may be no way to stop these messages via Google Voice.  That would, indeed, be disappointing, as I would then have to decide if keeping my Google Voice number is worth the annoyance of receiving these messages and associated e-mails.

Yes, we CAN tell you that the technology isn't there.  It's an industry-wide problem, not exclusive to Google Voice.
