Google Voice Cellular Data when iPhone e-SIM is in use 0 Recommended Answers 7 Replies 1 Upvote

Google Voice or Hangouts work perfectly while making or receiving calls over the Cellular or a WiFi Network for me when I have only one cellular network or a Wifi Network available.
My issue begins when I have an e-SIM and a physical SIM activated on my iPhone XS MAX. Once both cellular lines are active and on standby then Google voice has difficulty receiving and making calls via the cellular network designated for data usage. Most often it will not complete the calls.
Once my phone gets on WiFi or I deactivate one of the lines then all is well again.
Anyone with a similar setup experience this and have a solution?

Welcome to the forum.
I know it is not possible on the Android Pixel to have both esim and physical sim active at the same time.
Are you sure that the iPhone will?

I am 100% positive that on the iPhone XS series phones both e-sim and physical sim are on active standby. Data, however, can only be channeled through one.

Google Voice recently enabled VoIP calling directly from Google voice through an internet browser or the Google Voice app on mobile devices
The new default for Google Voice to use VoIP
If you want to go back to connecting calls over the telephone network, open a desktop browser and go to the settings calls tab and toggle the option to always use your telephone to the on position as shown.

I may not have been clear on my post.
I am aware of google voice’s capability of making calls using the cellular network. No issues there.
My issue is when calls over cellular DATA  (VoIP)are generated when both sims are active.

Without a phone to test with, I can't do any testing perhaps someone with the same setup as yours will chime in

Did you ever fix this issue ?
I just started having it and it’s very frustrating!!!

I’m having the same issue. But works well if the data is set to work with the eSim and not the physical SIM card. So going to setting and cellular and selecting the eSim as your Cellular Data will fix the issue. Not sure why that is, must’ve been something that Apple overlooked.
