Unable to retrieve my google voice number

I activated my google voice account by choosing a number this week and made a successful call abroad. Yesterday, I tried making a call and now google voice asks me to choose a number first.
My google voice number has stopped showing up in my google voice settings.
And I can't even request for another google voice number because my sprint number has already been used for verification on a previously assigned google voice number.
This is the error I receive while requesting for a new google voice number.
"This phone number can't be used to sign up for a Google Voice number. Try verifying with another number."

PS: I do have the previously assigned google voice number noted down with me.

Welcome to the forum.

â€‹What you describe sounds like you are signed into the wrong Google account.

If you know your Google number but have forgotten the Google Account username you used to sign in,
Use the forgot username assistance page to help you recover your username. https://www.google.com/voice/account/recovery
One of two things will happen, either it sends the message or it tells you that the number you entered is not a Google voice number.

  1. Enter your Google number in the appropriate field.
  2. Fill out the captcha (distorted words in a box).
  3. After completing the captcha, a message will be sent to the Google Account associated with the Google number you provided
If it sends the message.
Check each email account under your control until you find the message.

If you don't receive the email, you may have an account you forgot about. In which case you may be able to use Google's username recovery tool to find other accounts you have:

I am also running into the same issue. I have no GV number, and when I hit the /signup URL I am just redirecting to the Google Voice site.

Hi. I have a different question: I had to do a total reset of my iPhone 8, and now my Google Voice number doesn't work. I cannot call out from Google Voice. But I can call in to it from another phone - yet, there is no record of the incoming call. When I did try to relink it and Google sent me a 6 digit security code, that code never appeared on my phone in either my Google Voice app or my regular text SMS app.

I've looked through online guidance, and don't see steps that relate to this specific issue. I still have my number - so "reclaiming" it doesn't seem to work.

Thank you for any help!

My google voice account stopped working.  When I call it from another phone it rings but not to my linked phone number.  I went to https://www.google.com/voice/b/0/account/recoveryCheck and found the email associated with my number, but there is no recovery email in my spam or email inbox.  In the google voice account associated with my email, the phone number is not showing up.  Is there anyway I can call someone to get assistance?

I am having the same problem with my GV#.  When I try to sign up for a new #, I select a #, verify my account with a different number, but then the new number disappears from my settings and it tells me to pick a new number again.  The number never saves to the account.
The reasons that Google accounts are not eligible to be assigned a Google Voice inbound telephone number include (but may not be limited to):
  1. You are signed into a G Suites account, the free consumer version of Google Voice is not available for G Suites.
  2. The submitted number is from a telephone carrier that is ineligible to be used to claim a Google Voice number.  Submit a different forwarding phone number.  The number you submit must be from one of the "big four" mobile carriers (AT&T Wireless, Sprint, T-Mobile or Verizon Wireless) or one of their subsidiary or re-seller brands, or from a traditional land line carrier such as AT&T, CenturyLink, Charter, Comcast, Frontier, Spectrum or Verizon.
  3. The submitted number has been previously used by either you, or the previous user of that number, to request a Google Voice number.  Submit a different number.
  4. You cannot delete a Google Voice number, expecting to then claim a different Google Voice number; your account will be blocked from doing so, as it would circumvent paying the number change fee.
  5. The submitted number is outside the 48 contiguous US states.  Submit a number from within the 48 contiguous US states.  You cannot sign up for a Google Voice number, nor port in a number, while outside the USA.
  6. You have tried to submit forwarding numbers too many times in a short period of time.  Wait at least 24 hours before trying again.
  7. Your Google account has been flagged for some violation of Google's Terms of Service or its Acceptable Use Policy.  You are ineligible to get a Google Voice number.
These limitations are in place to protect the service from abuse.  As such, to limit information which could be used to reverse-engineer the protections, Google will not provide any more-specific details on individual cases where a number request has been denied

What do you do if you are trying to "retrieve" the same number you originally had using the same phone number you originally signed up with?  I am not trying to change anything, and the number is available, I just had not used the number and it was put back into the available pool of numbers to choose from?
i.e I have had cell phone number abc-xyz-1234 for 15 years and used it to verify a google voice# 123-456-abcd.  I did not use google voice# 123-456-abcd for awhile so it was removed from my account and put back into the available pool of phone numbers to choose from.
I am now trying to re-establish this same google voice# 123-456-abcd using the same cell phone# abc-xyz-1234, but it is not letting me.
Is there a way to do this?

Google Gives you one Google Voice number and limits you from getting another by limiting the number of times you can obtain a number by screening the number you used to verify and restricting it if it was previously used with Google Voice.

You can keep your original number, change it or transfer it to a new account but you will need to verify a different phone number if you want to bypass the restriction on your verified phone number.

After you get your number, you can add your original linked number back to the account.

...I have tried to do this.  I am able to go through the process, verify the number and get a confirmation, but as soon as I go back to my google voice account, there is no phone number attached and it tells me to select a google voice phone#.  I have tried this with more than one phone# for verification.  I have even tried to select a different/new phone# with the same outcome.  It just won't attach a phone# to the account.

Google will neither confirm nor deny that there is a restriction on the number or person preventing you from getting a number.

But it is either a restriction on the number or the person, try another number to verify with.

Vipul, I'm having the same exact problem and nothing is working for me either. And I also can't use a new number. This is really messing me up today, work-wise.
