Hi kunal agarwal
Thanks for posting in the user moderated Google Voice Community Forum

How are you placing these calls? Is this from a mobile device or from web?
Have you checked your device to make sure you are not on mute?
Did you try calling yourself at another number to see if you can hear?

Hello,

Thanks for your reply. I am trying to make these calls from my mobile device via Google voice app.. the device is for sure not muted. I have also enabled app access to microphone and storage .  I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app to reset any settings but that didn't work either. What should I be doing to troubleshoot this?

Thanks,
Kunal

Hi kunal agarwal

What happens when you try from a computer using voice.google.com?

What model/version device and OS?

On your Android device,
Go to your Phone Settings -> Applications (differs depending on Android version)
Find Voice (Google Voice)
  • Click "Clear cache" and then "Clear data"
  • Uninstall the app (or updates reverting back to stock).
Find Google Services framework (if installed)
  • Force Stop
  • Click "Clear cache" and then "Clear data"
Find Google Play Services
  • Force Stop
  • Click "Clear cache"
Find Google Play Store
  • Click "Clear cache"
Find Media Storage (optional)
  • Force Stop
  • Click "Clear cache"
Restart the phone
Open the Google Play Store, sign in if prompted, and give it a few minutes to sync. Once you see your installed apps, update any that need it.
If necessary (not preinstalled) install the GV app (or updates) getting you to the latest version available.
Open GV, sign in again if prompted, then retry.

Hi,

I tried all the steps you mentioned, including uninstalling and re-installing the latest google voice app. The same problem persists - the voice app is acting like it is muted so the other person on the line cannot hear me but I can hear him/her very clearly.

This isn;t the case when I try calling from my laptop and it works fine from the browser - so some setting in the phone for google voice is causing this problem. Any additional help to resolve this would be much appreciated. None of the other apps have this problem - e.g. WHatsapp voice calling works perfectly. It is only google voice app on my Pixel 2 android phone.

Thanks,
Kunal

Hi kunal agarwal

Please check your device settings to make sure that there is nothing muting the Google Voice app. Also make sure you allow all permissions for the Google Voice app.

I am having the SAME issue and it IS from my Laptop or ANY computer using the web with Chrome or Firefox. I can hear the person on the other end but they can not hear me. I also noticed that when I hang up, I hear the person with the voice speed up and then cut off and hang up. As if the caching for voice data is delayed or corrupted. This happens for my account ALL the time on every device. Why?? Also when I try and answer the phone on SOME calls, the call drops and hangs up. My mic is NOT muted and I use LINUX at home in my laptop but I use WINDOWS on the computers in the public library and they too have issue with my google voice when I try to make a phone call or answer one. The other person does not hear me.

On both my laptop and my office computer GV has started disconnecting the headsets I use and suddenly I can hear the person I am talking to only through laptop/computer internal speakers, but they cannot hear me.

This has been happening ~1 month.
