My Google Voice number has been reclaimed
I received an email notifying me that my Google Voice number is being reclaimed. What's going on?
Because phone numbers are a limited resource, it is Google Voice's policy to reclaim unused numbers so they can be made available to new users. We sent you an email because we noticed that you haven't used your Google Voice number in awhile.
What if I want to keep my Google Voice number?
If you’d like to keep your Google Voice number, you will need to sign in to your account to make calls or send text messages or, use one of our mobile apps, by the date stated in the email you received. Please remember that your current number will be reclaimed by the date stated in the email unless you start using it. If the number is reclaimed, your existing messages will remain available in your account, but you will no longer be able to receive calls or text messages.
Oops. I forgot to use my Google Voice number, and I received an email saying it has been reclaimed! How do I get it back?
If you number has been reclaimed, you will still be able to get it back for 30 days (but only 30 days) after the reclaim date outlined in the email you received. To get your Google Voice number back after it has been reclaimed:
- Go to http://www.google.com/voice and sign in to the Google Account associated with your reclaimed Google Voice number.
- Select Get a Google Voice Number from the left side of your Google Voice inbox or from the Phones tab of your Google Voice Settings.
- A dialogue box will appear. Please enter your former Google Voice number and click search. When your number appears, select it as your new Google Voice number. This number will only show up as available to you. And, in order to see the number in the search results, you must be signed in to the Google Account associated with the number you would like to reclaim.
You will have 30 days after your number has been reclaimed to complete this process.
