A T-Mobile system update is preventing some T-Mobile Android phones from making outbound calls through certain applications (including Google Voice). If you don't hear "This call is being placed by Google" on an international/paid call, your call will be connected through your carrier. Read more information here.

Make international calls

You can make international calls at low rates with Google Voice.

First, purchase calling credit

  1. On your computer, open Google Voice.
  2. On the left, next to "Credit," click Add . Your billing history will open.
  3. You can look up a calling rate for the number you want to call. Rates vary by country and will be counted on a per minute basis.
  4. If you don't have enough credit for your call, purchase calling credit:
    1. Under "Calling credit" click Add $10.00 credit or Add credit.
    2. Enter your credit card and billing information to pay with your Google Account.
    3. Once you complete your purchase, you'll get a verification message with the purchase details via email.

Then, make your international call

  1. On your computer, open Google Voice.
  2. At the top left, click Call.
  3. In the box under "Number to call," type a contact’s name or phone number. For international calls, enter "+ country code" and number (or "+1 country code," depending on where you're calling). For example: +442012345612345 or +1246-426-0200.
  4. In the box under "Phone to call with," click the dropdown to choose which phone you want to use for the call. If you want Google Voice to remember your choice for the future, click the checkbox next to "Remember my choice."
  5. Click Connect. Google Voice will call you at that forwarding phone and connect you to the number you dialed.

You can also place an international call using the Google Voice Android app, the Google Voice iPhone app, the Hangouts apps, or Google Chat in Gmail.

Paid call announcement

For every international or other paid call, you’ll hear or see a message that says how much the call costs or that the call is being routed through Google Voice.

If you don't hear or see either of these messages, your call isn't being routed through Google Voice, and you may be charged by your mobile carrier. You may want to check that your call settings haven't been changed by a recent app update or another app that's conflicting with Google Voice.
