Known Issues with Google Voice on Sprint

If there are any known problems with Google Voice on Sprint you can find them on our known issues page. We post workarounds that may help you resolve these issues.

Why isn't my number eligible for Google Voice on Sprint?

If your telephone number isn't eligible for integration, it is because of one of the following reasons:

  1. You're behind on your Sprint phone bill. Please check with Sprint to remedy this.
  2. The phone number you entered is a corporate number or a landline number. Currently, we don't offer the ability to integrate corporate or landline phone numbers.
  3. You are not using a Sprint branded mobile phone. Nextel, PowerSource, corporate, and pre-paid phones are not compatible with Google Voice.
  4. We were in a 'maintenance window' during the time you tried to sign up. Please try again in 24 hours. If you try again and are still unable to integrate your number, it is likely because of the previously mentioned reasons.

Sprint is working to address an issue in which customer accounts with a "public sector" or "government" discount (i.e. teacher, firemen, military, government agency, etc.) are considered ineligible. If this best describes you and you pay for and are responsible for your own bill, Sprint hopes to make Google Voice on Sprint available for you in the future. Please check our Google Voice Known Issues page for updates.
What are the basic options for using Google Voice on my Sprint mobile phone?

There are two options for using Google Voice on Sprint:

  1. Option 1: Use your Sprint number with Google Voice: Your Sprint mobile number functions as your Google Voice number. You can take advantage of all of Google Voice's features without having to get a brand new number.
  2. Option 2: Replace your Sprint number with your Google Voice number: If you already have a Google Voice number or prefer to sign up for a brand new number, you can enable Google Voice for your Sprint mobile phone. This means that all calling, text messages, and voicemail on your Sprint Mobile Phone will go through Google Voice and display your Google Voice number. When others call or text your Sprint mobile number, you will still be able to receive calls or texts on your Sprint mobile phone number.
How does this affect my Sprint Phone Bill?

It doesn’t. You don’t pay extra for the Google Voice features, and your text messaging, monthly minutes, and calling features don’t change.

You will still be billed by Sprint for the airtime (minutes) you use for all domestic and international calls. You can sign into your Sprint account to check the number of airtime minutes you have left for the month.

Users interested in Sprint Option 2: This option may impact the mobile to mobile minutes for the people you call:

Calls from your Sprint handset that display your Google Voice number will be included in your mobile to mobile minutes. However, they may not be included in your call recipients mobile to mobile minutes since a non-Sprint number displays when you place calls. As a result it may affect their phone bill.
