Temporary call forwarding

If you're heading to the mountains for the weekend and want Google Voice to forward your calls to your cabin, you can add a temporary number to Google Voice. Here's how:

  1. Call your Google number from the temporary number you wish to add. If you're not calling from one of your forwarding phones that connects directly to your voicemail and account system, press the * key. If you have a PIN set up, enter it when prompted.
  2. Press 4 to access the main settings menu.
  3. Press 4 again to access your temporary settings.
  4. Press 2 to set the number from which you're calling as a temporary forwarding number. Keep in mind that you can't select a number you already have on your Google Voice settings as a temporary number to receive calls.

Please note that when you set up your temporary forwarding number, it will ring in addition to the other numbers you have set in the Phones tab, not override the phones you've set to ring in the Phones tab.

If you no longer need your temporary number and want to remove it as one of the phones that is rung when someone calls your Google number, you can turn it off through the Google Voice website or the Google Voice phone system:

Google Voice web interface

  1. Click the Phones tab of your Settings.
  2. Your temporary number will be listed at the top of the page. Click Delete to remove the temporary number you've set.

Google Voice phone system

  1. Call your Google number from any phone. Press * to reach the Google Voice phone system, unless you are connecting directly to voicemail and the phone system, where you won't have to press *.
  2. Press 4 to access the main settings menu.
  3. Press 4 again to access your temporary settings.
  4. Press 2 to remove your temporary forwarding number.
  5. Press 3 to turn off your temporary forwarding number.
