Create media assets for different host platforms

Once you set up a media asset, users can find it in the Google Search Sports OneBox when they search for the event it covers. Media content can be hosted on different platforms. Depending on the platform, the media asset will have one of 4 formats:

  • Livestream: A link to a livestream on your owned and operated website or YouTube
  • Story: A web story hosted on your website
  • Video: A link to a video on your owned and operated website
  • Youtube: A link to a YouTube video on your channel

The available formats in ViTA depend on the use cases that you agreed with your Google partner manager. When you add a new media asset in ViTA, you need to choose a specific format. The steps to create the asset are based on the format you select.

Add a livestream asset

  1. In the "Game" panel, select Livestream assets.
  2. Under "Asset Language," click Expand . The language must be the same as the audio track of the livestream.
    • Available languages are based on the languages you chose during onboarding.
  3. Enter a livestream URL such as https://www.example.com/livestream.
  4. Under "Subscription Required," to indicate if a premium subscription is required to access the livestream content, select Yes or No.
    • If your account configuration only shows one available option, then, it's preselected.

  5. Click Save.

Tip: Once you choose an asset format, you can view, modify, or delete the asset in the Assets Manager to be viewed, modified, or deleted and will show up in the Asset Report.

Add a story asset

  1. In the "Game" panel, select Storys.
  2. Under "Asset Language," click Expand . The language must be the same as the audio track and subtitles.
    • Available languages are based on the languages you chose during onboarding.
  3. To select the video type, click Expand .
    • Pre-game: A preview that leads up to the game.
    • In-game & Post-game: The highlights of a game while it happens and a recap of its key events when it ends.
  4. Enter a web story URL such as https://www.example.com/story.
  5. Enter a landscape Thumbnail URL and an optional portrait Thumbnail URL. Google Search displays the thumbnail when the media asset shows up.
  6. Click Save.

Tip: To make the video available for Discover, it needs a portrait thumbnail. This feature is only available for sports that are team-based:

  • Soccer
  • Basketball
  • Baseball
  • Cricket
  • Hockey
  • Rugby

Add a video asset

  1. In the "Game" panel, select Video assets.
  2. Under "Asset Language," click Expand . The language must be the same as the audio track and subtitles used in the video.
    • Available languages are based on the languages you chose during onboarding.
  3. To select the video type, click Expand .
    • Pre-game: A preview that leads up to the game.
    • In-game: The highlights of a game while it happens.
    • Post-game: A recap of the key events of a game.
  4. Enter:
    • A video URL, such as http://www.example.com/video_url.

    • A video thumbnail URL, such as http://www.example.com/thumbnail1.jpg.

    • The video duration in seconds.

      • Google Search displays the duration when the media asset shows up.

  5. Click Save.

Tip: The “Title in Video Locale” might be used in the future. Currently, you don’t need to enter a video title.

Add a YouTube asset

  1. In the game panel, select YouTube Videos.
  2. Under "Asset Language," click Expand . The language must be the same as the audio track and subtitles used in the video.
  3. To select the video type, click Expand .
    • Pre-game: A preview that leads up to the game.
    • In-game: The highlights of a game while it happens.
    • Post-game: A recap of the key events of a game.
  4. Enter a YouTube video URL. ​​Google Search retrieves the thumbnail, video title, and duration from YouTube directly.
  5. If there’s a “Restriction” field:
    • To make the video available for eligible Google products, like YouTube Official Cards, Google Search, Discover, and Google TV: Select No restriction. If you don’t find a “Restriction” field, it’s unrestricted by default.
    • To make the YouTube video available only for YouTube Official Cards, set the field to “YouTube Watch Cards only.” This allows you to tag YouTube videos for YouTube Official Cards and website videos for Google Search.
  6. Click Save.

Tip: The “Title in Video Locale” might be used in the future. Currently, you don’t need to enter a video title.
