Ensim Webpliance 3.6 for Windows fails to add more than 100 profiles to Urchin configuration

Ensim Webpliance 3.6 for Windows ships with Urchin 5.101. However, it appears that the build of Urchin 5.101 that was used in creation of the Webpliance 3.6 distribution contained an old Urchin 4 beta version of the uconf-import utility. This utility is used by the Ensim provisioning to add new records (e.g. Profiles) to the Urchin configuration.

The most common problem caused by running Urchin 5 with this older uconf-import utility is that no more than one hundred profiles can be created even if the Urchin 5 license allows for more. This behavior occurs when adding Urchin profiles either through the Ensim control panel, or with direct usage of the uconf-import utility called from a script or on the command line. It should be noted that there may be more unknown side effects resulting from using this out-of-date utility.

To resolve any possible problems, you should upgrade your Urchin distribution to the most current 5.x release. Upgrade instructions can be found

  • here.
  • Urchin distributions can be found in two places:

  • ftp://urchin.com/urchin5
  • Following the upgrade, you should ensure that the uconf-import binary version was updated successfully by displaying the version number using the following command:

    /path/to/urchin/util/uconf-import -v
