Why Do Top Files and Top Pages Report Different Numbers for the Same Page?

When comparing the statistics for a particular page record in the Top Pages versus the Top Files report, it may be possible that the Top Pages statistic for the page is lower than that reported by in the Top Files report.

The reason for this is that the statistic displayed in the Top Pages report is a Pageview number - that is, the number of valid Pageviews for that page. A valid pageview is counted only for hits that have a status code of 2xx or 302 (Found). On the other hand, the Top Files statistic is incremented for every hit that matches the Page, regardless of the status of the hit. Therefore, if a particular page has a number of hits with error status codes, the Top Files number will be higher than that given in the Top Pages report.
