Basic Operations

Overview

To complete the installation, please follow these additional steps:

    1. Configure DNS settings
    2. Configure log rotation
    3. Automate Urchin processing
    4. Check Advanced Settings

DNS
DNS Settings are found in the Urchin 4 Configuration under Settings Process Settings configuration window. Additional information is provided in the help on that page for configuration DNS.

Log Rotation
Urchin 4 now includes a log tracking module which keeps track of how far into each log it has processed so far. Thus, log file rotation does not necessarily need to be coordinated with Urchin operation. Urchin 4 does not provide automation for log rotation or disposal. Please consult your webserver configuration for properly rotating log files.

Automate Urchin
In the Urchin 4 configuration under the Scheduler Task Manager, each profile can be scheduled to run at an appropriate time. More information is available in the help on that screen.

Check Advanced Settings
Before continuing operation under Urchin 4, check the options in the advanced settings for each profile. Click on the Edit button to the right of the profile, and select the Advanced Settings tab to see if any additional parameters need to be changed. Specific details are provided in the help on that screen. In particular, you may want to consider installing the Urchin Tracking Module to improve accuracy and enable unique visitor reporting. More information on this system is available in a separate whitepaper entitled, Urchin Traffic Monitor (UTM).
