Google tranlate contextual menu no longer appearing when I click the copy icon on text in whatsapp

I use a pixel 8 pro and it was working fine before.  When my girlfriend writes me in spanish, I could hold the line of text in whatsapp and a copy icon would appear at the top of the whatsapp screen. As soon as I copy a menu from Google translate would appear at the top and I'd have the option to 'TRANSLATE ALL MESSAGES IN THIS CHAT TO ENGLISH'

This no longer appears. I remember a message popping up and I clicked ok by mistake and now I can't figure out how to get this feature back.  Within the translate app settings, it Only gives the option to copy and paste text to from one app ot the other to translate.  I don't like using the floating translate app icon, it is primitive and doesn't translate all the messages automatically to english. I can't find anything on the web.  This happened one time on my Pixel 6 Pro and I can't recall how the issue fixed itself.

Thank you in advance.

To my recollection this option was a WhatsApp settings or an Android setting, not Translate's...

By some miracle I just found it. The setting is on Android in the system. It's called live translate. Settings - system - live translate... And turn the toggle switch on for the language that you want installed. Thank you guys for your replies!!!

Hi Sean,

This Tap to Translate feature was super helpful for WhatsApp or other messaging platform users for too long - https://youtu.be/4xtEp55MKRE?feature=shared

...until one day, Google decided to push the floating icon in the back. The team provided some technical reasons on why they had to take this call and how it was aligned with the newer Android updates.

Well, Tap to translate is a passe. Here comes Google Gboard ( I don't think as a Pixel user you need to install it ).

You can start using Translate as you type feature in WhatsApp or other messaging apps.

This cool featutre should come in handy for you. Cheers!!
