How can I create a link to automatically translate my website?

Hey,

we integrated the translate function on our website. Is there any way to open the website and make google translate activate itself automatically onload?

example: https://www.muenkel.eu/#translate-german-to-english

This would help a lot.

Best wishes
Flo

I understand that unfortunately Google Translate team has stopped the support for Google Translator widget which is what you are asking about, this change only affects new websites wanting to add the widget.

A better solution is to use Google Cloud Translation API https://cloud.google.com/translate/docs/

Hi Flom, yes, websites can be created with the different languages such as to open a google support article in English, you end the article with ?hl=en. Information at https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/182192?hl=en and then the Webmaster community located at www.support.google.com/webmasters/community.

Hi,

thank you for that hint but it does not work:

Any idea?

I want this to work for all users, not only for chrome users.

Best regards
Flom

Hi Flom, when I open the page in Chrome, I get an instant pop up asking me if I want to translate to English from German. Because you are the webmaster, have you by any chance discussed with www.support.google.com/webmasters/community about how to create different language variations of the webpages?

No making translation on our own is too expensive because we have lots of products and lots of languages.

Hi Flom, I can ask around about this but do note that is a user is using Google Chrome, it should recognize when the webpage is opening in a language that is not set in their Google Account or for any other product and ask to translate into their preferred language. https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/173424?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform=Desktop and according to that "By default, Chrome offers to translate pages written in a language you don't understand."

Well I prefer it working for any browser. I do not want to use the chrome function. I want to use the google translate script which is already included in our website.

Hi Flom, I have asked my colleagues and will let you know if I hear anything back from them. It's the weekend so it might take a few days to hear back.

Hi Flom, heard back from one of my colleagues and he did say this was outside the scope of our community however he did find two resources that might be helpful for you.

Resource A: https://www.openvalley-web.com/multilingual-websites/url-domain-name-strategy/ and he thought the Strategy B section would help the most.

Hi, my colleague also says if the Google Translate script you are using is similar to https://stackoverflow.com/questions/12243818/adding-google-translate-to-a-web-site then that has been discontinued last year but it should continue to work if you had the plugin before the discontinuation date and new plugins now (so added now) won't work and can't be added.

The Translate API -  a paid service - that should offer you this feature...Shouldn't it?

Thank you, David, for sharing your thoughts!

Because I don't have the Google Translate website translator, this is what I do see:
