Translate written words

You can translate words or phrases using the Google Translate app, or use Google Translate on the web through your browser.

Translate text using the Google Translate app

  1. Open the Translate app .
  2. Enter the text to translate.
  3. Tap the top-left Down arrow Down Arrow and then tap the language to translate from.
  4. Tap the top-right Down Arrow Down Arrow and then tap the language to translate into.
  5. You'll see an automatic translation. If not, tap Translate Translate.

Tip: To see your translation in full screen mode, turn your device sideways.

Translate text using Google Translate on the web

You can use Translate using your phone's web browser, like Chrome or Firefox.

  1. Go to Google Translate page.
  2. Tap the top-left Down Arrow Down Arrow and then tap the language to translate from. If you're not sure, tap Detect language.
  3. Tap the top-right Down Arrow Down Arrow and then tap the language to translate into.
  4. Start typing and the translation will appear automatically. The more you type, the more accurate your translation will be.

Note: You need to have Javascript turned on for your browser to see your translations instantly. Learn how to turn on Javascript in Chrome.

If you don't have Javascript, to see your results, tap Translate Translate.

Listen to your translation

To hear your translation aloud, tap Listen .
