Translate by speech

You can translate spoken words and phrases if your device has a microphone. In some languages, you'll hear the translation spoken aloud.

Translate by speech

  1. Open the Translate app Translate app.
  2. At the top, select the languages to translate between.
  3. Tap Speak Speak
    • If this button is greyed out, the spoken language can't be translated.
  4. After it says 'Speak now', say what you want to translate.

Change your speech settings

Block offensive words

  1. Open the Translate app Translate app.
  2. At the bottom right, tap Settings  and then Speech input
  3. Turn on Block offensive words.

Change region/dialect

  1. Open the Translate app Translate app.
  2. At the bottom right, tap Settings  and then Speech region.
  3. Tap the language that you want to change.
  4. Tap the region associated with the dialect that you want.
Tip: Some languages don't have all dialects available.

Change your audio pace

  1. Open the Translate app Translate app.
  2. At the bottom right, tap Settings Settings and then Speed.
  3. Select Normal, Slow or Slower.
