Translate text messages, webpages, or documents

On some devices you can translate special types of content, like text messages, websites, or documents.

On a computer, you can translate webpages and existing documents.

Translate webpages

  1. Go to the Google Translate page.
  2. Next to "Detect language", click the Down arrow Down Arrow.
  3. Click the original language to translate from.
  4. Above the gray text box, click the click the Down arrow Down Arrow.
  5. Click the language to translate to.
  6. Type the web address into the box on the left.
  7. Click Translate.
  8. To see the translated version of the site, click on the link in the box on the right.

Translate documents

  1. Go to the Google Translate page.
  2. Next to "Detect language", click the Down arrow Down Arrow.
  3. Click the original language to translate from.
  4. Above the gray text box, click the click the Down arrow Down Arrow.
  5. Click the language to translate to.
  6. Below the search bar, click Translate a document.
  7. Choose the file you want to translate. These file types can be translated: .pdf, .txt, .doc, .ppt, .xls, or .rtf.
  8. In the upper right, click Translate.

Note: Some of the original formatting might be lost after translation.
