Fix Toolbar for Internet Explorer

If you have problems with Toolbar for Internet Explorer, here are some ways to fix them.

Can't install Toolbar

If you can’t install Toolbar, here are some things you can try:

  1. Make sure you have Internet Explorer.
  2. Make sure your computer and browser work with Toolbar.
  3. Turn on Toolbar.
  4. Allow JavaScript to run. If you see a "Page cannot be found" error message, it might be because your browser has blocked JavaScript. Check your browser's help center for info on how to allow JavaScript.
  5. Clear your browser cache.
  6. Turn on Active Scripting:
    1. On your browser, click Tools > Internet Options.
    2. In “Security,” click Custom Level.
    3. Check Active Scripting.
    4. Click OK.
Can't sign in to Toolbar

If you have problems signing in to your Google Account on Toolbar, follow these steps:

Step 1: Uninstall Gmail Notifier

Uninstall Gmail Notifier. To get email alerts, select a different service:

Step 2: Clear your cache and cookies

Step 3: Accept cookies from Google

  1. On your browser, click Tools > Internet Options.
  2. In Privacy, click Sites.
  3. In “Address of website,” enter google.com
  4. Click Allow > OK.
Can't find my webpage

If Internet Explorer can’t find your webpage:

  1. Clear your cache and cookies then refresh the page.
  2. Troubleshoot potential Windows issues.
  3. Switch to Google Public DNS on your home PC.

Turn on “Suggestions” when Internet Explorer can’t find your webpage

You can set Toolbar to suggest related pages when you get an error trying to visit a website.

  1. On your Toolbar, click Settings Settings.
  2. On the General tab, under "Web-browsing tools", check Provide suggestions on navigation errors.
  3. Click Save.
Note: Toolbar doesn't offer suggestions when custom 404 pages larger than 512 bytes are found.
Find a missing button

Pin a button to Toolbar

You can pin a button to Toolbar to prevent it from disappearing.

  1. On your Toolbar, click More to see a list of tools you have turned on.
  2. To pin a tool, right-click the tool.
  3. Select Pin button.

Pin all buttons to Toolbar

  1. Right-click Toolbar.
  2. Select Pin all buttons.

If you only want to see your frequently used buttons, deselect Pin all buttons.

Find a button that doesn’t show:

  1. Expand your browser window.
  2. On your Toolbar, click More to see the tool. If it’s not there, the tool may be turned off.

Turn on a tool

  1. On your Toolbar, click Settings Settings
  2. On the left, click the tab for the tool you want to turn on.
  3. Check the tool you want to turn on.
Can't see Toolbar

If you can’t see Toolbar, try these troubleshooting steps:

Step 1: Turn on add-ons

  1. On your browser, click Tools > Manage Add-ons.
  2. Select Enable for Google Toolbar, Google Toolbar Helper, and Google Toolbar Notifier BHO.
  3. Click Close.
  4. Check if Toolbar is visible.
  5. If it isn’t, try the next step.

Step 2: Turn on the Toolbar in the "View" menu

  1. On your browser, click Tools > Toolbars.
  2. Check Google Toolbar.
  3. Check if Toolbar is visible.
  4. If it isn’t, try the next step.

Step 3: Reset Internet Explorer settings

  1. On your browser, click Tools > Internet Options.
  2. On the Advanced tab, click Reset.
  3. Read how your computer will be affected.
  4. Check Delete personal settings.
  5. Click Reset.
  6. If you still don't see the Toolbar, try the next step.

Note: This can affect other settings in Internet Explorer.

Step 4: Reinstall Toolbar

Install Toolbar again.

Troubleshoot the problem

If you still have problems with Toolbar after following the steps above, try this troubleshooter.

Report an issue

  1. On your Toolbar, click Settings Settings.
  2. Select Report a Toolbar issue.
  3. In the page that appears, add details in the "Tell us what is happening" field, including steps to reproduce the issue you're experiencing.
  4. To include a URL, email address, or screenshot, check the boxes accordingly.
  5. Click Send feedback.
