Common troubleshooting steps

You may be able to address Google Toolbar issues on your own by following these common troubleshooting steps. If the first step doesn't resolve the issue you're seeing, continue by moving to the next step.

Step 1: Update Google Toolbar

You may be using an older version of Toolbar, or your Toolbar files may have been damaged. Reinstall the latest version of Toolbar from our homepage to confirm you have the most recent updates and fixes.

Step 2: Update Internet Explorer

Run Windows Update to confirm you have the latest security updates for your PC. Click the Windows Start button, click All Programs, and then click Windows Update.

You can also reinstall the latest version of IE to confirm you have the most recent updates and fixes.

Step 3: Disable all other add-ons

Disable all other add-ons to see whether a specific add-on conflicts with Toolbar.

  1. Click the Internet Explorer Tools menu, then choose Manage Add-ons.
  2. Select an add-on, then click Disable.
  3. Repeat the previous step for all add-ons except Google Toolbar, then click Close.

If the problem no longer occurs, re-enable each add-on one at a time to find the one that's causing trouble.

Step 4: Delete your browsing history

  1. Click the Internet Explorer Tools menu, then choose Internet Options.
  2. On the General tab, click Delete in the 'Browsing history' section.
  3. Select Temporary Internet Files and Cookies, then click Delete.
