Translate web pages

You can instantly translate entire web pages using Google Toolbar.

  1. Visit a web page in a different language than your Toolbar. A translation bar will appear near the top of the page.
  2. On the right side of the translation bar, click the grey Translate button.

Here are a few other things you can do:

  • If you translated a page and want to go back to the original, click Show Original.
  • If you don’t want to translate a page, click the "x" on the right side of the translation bar to close it.

Turn off web page translation

If you don't want Google to offer web page translation, you can turn the translation bar off. You can turn it back on at any time.

  1. On the right side of the Toolbar, click the wrench
  2. On the left side of the window, click the Tools tab.
  3. At the bottom in the "Translate" section, click Edit.
  4. To turn off the translation bar, untick the box at the bottom next to "Offer page translation when a web page is not in [language]." To turn it back on, tick the box.
  5. Click Save.

Now, when you visit web pages that aren't in your language, the translation bar won't appear.

Translate web pages automatically

If you regularly visit web pages that need translation, you might want to turn on Toolbar’s automatic web page translation tool. That way, you can have all the pages you visit automatically translated to your language.

Turn on automatic page translation

  1. Visit a page that's in a different language than your Toolbar. A translation bar will appear near the top of the page.
  2. On the right side of the translation bar, click the grey Translate button.
  3. After the page is translated, tick the box next to "Always translate [language]" in the translation bar at the top of the page.

The next time you visit a page in that language, it will be automatically translated to your Toolbar language.

Turn off automatic page translation

  1. On the right side of the Toolbar, click the wrench
  2. Go to the Tools tab.
  3. In the "Translate" section, click Edit.
  4. In the "Auto-translation preferences" box, select the languages that you want to remove.
  5. Click Remove preference.
  6. Click Save.
