Stop using a security key

If you lose your key or decide that you don't want to use it any more, you can remove it from your account. Once a key has been removed from your account, you can't use it to sign in unless you register it again.

Note: If you're enrolled in the Advanced Protection Programme, you'll need to turn it off in your Google Account before you can remove all keys.

  1. Go to the two-step verification section of your Google Account. You may need to sign in.
  2. Next to the key that you want to remove, select edit Edit.
  3. Select Remove this key and then OK.

If you remove a key from your account, it can be used again by adding it back to your account or to another account.
