Search Results
1. How does Tenor search recommend content?
How Tenor Recommends Content:
For Tenor to recommend relevant content for your searches, we use certain information, such as:
- Your Search: The words you type in are the most important factor.
- Your Language: We look at the language you're using to show GIFs in the same language.
- Your Location: We consider where you're searching from to make sure we show GIFs that are relevant to your culture and region.
Partners Who Use Tenor:
Some apps and websites use Tenor to power their expression search. They can customize your experience through API parameters, such as:
- Content Type: They can filter for just GIFs, stickers, or other types of content.
- Appropriateness: They can set a rating like G or PG to avoid showing content that might not be suitable for everyone.
- File Type: They can choose specific formats like .gif or .mp4.
- Shape: They can get content in different shapes (square, wide, etc.) to fit where they're being used.
- Random Results: They can choose to mix things up and show you unexpected content.
- Specific Location: They can override your location if they know you're interested in a different region's content.
- Specific Language: They can override your language if they know you want content in a different language.
What You Can Control:
You have a lot of control over the content you see!
- Clear Searches: Use specific words to describe what you want.
- Filters: Many apps using Tenor have filters to let you choose GIF types, ratings, and more.
- Privacy Settings: You can manage your privacy settings on Tenor or the app you're using. This can affect the way we recommend content.
Why We Do This:
We want to make expression searching as fun and easy as possible. By understanding what you're looking for, we can show you the perfect content at the perfect moment.
Report a Violation
1. How can I report abusive and/or offensive content?
Currently, our app is rated 17+. A large portion of our library is user-uploaded and we do our best to ensure that uploaded content meets that rating. If there is a specific piece of content that you feel is inappropriate for the 17+ rating, you may flag it for review by holding down on the GIF on our app and scrolling to the “Report” button. On Tenor.com you click the flag button next to the content in question. To learn more about our abuse program policies and enforcement, please reference our policies help center article.

Content Policy Enforcement Appeals
1. How can I appeal a Tenor content policy enforcement action?
We sometimes reject content, including posts, profile avatars and banners when violations of our Tenor abuse program policies or “content policy” are identified. However, we sometimes make mistakes.
If you believe action was taken on your Tenor content in error, you may be able to appeal by following the steps below.
Before you begin, review the Tenor abuse program policies.
Within 6 months of receiving an email noting the rejection of your post, you can appeal the decision once by clicking on the provided link and giving a justification for why you think the content does not violate the given policy(ies).
Appeal decisions
Once a decision is made on your appeal, you are informed of the decision and one of the following happens:
- Approved appeal: If we find the content was removed in error, we restore the content.
- Denied appeal: If we find that the content is in violation of our policies, the content remains down.
Content removals can only be appealed once. Additional resolution options may be available. Learn more about European Union Digital Services Act Resolution Options.
