Organize your tasks

You can change the order of your tasks, or move them to a different list.

Reorder your tasks

  1. Go to Gmail, Calendar, Chat, Drive, or a file in Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides.
  2. On the right, click Tasks Tasks.
  3. Click and hold a task.
  4. Move the task where you want.
Tip: To reorder a task you're editing, on the left, click and hold Drag .

Sort tasks by due date

  1. Go to Gmail, Calendar, Chat, Drive, or a file in Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides.
  2. On the right, click Tasks Tasks and then More More.
  3. Under "Sort by," click Date.

Move a task to a different list

  1. Go to Gmail, Calendar, Chat, Drive, or a file in Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides.
  2. On the right, click Tasks Tasks.
  3. Point to the task you want to move.
  4. Next to the task name, click Open menu More.
  5. Click the list name you want to move the task to.
Tip: Tasks set to repeat can't be moved to a different list.

Prioritize tasks with stars

Star tasks

  1. Go to Gmail, Calendar, Chat, Drive, or a file in Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides.
  2. On the right, click Tasks Tasks.
  3. On the right of a task, click Add to starred Star.

Tips: 

  • From the Starred list, you can also create a starred task and select its primary list.
  • To remove a task from your starred tasks, click Remove from starred Star.

Manage starred tasks

  1. Go to Gmail, Calendar, Chat, Drive, or a file in Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides.
  2. On the right, click Tasks Tasks.
  3. To view your starred tasks, click the Down arrow Drop down arrow and then Starred tasks Star.
  4. To re-order your tasks, click More More and then choose an option:
    • To sort by due date, click Date.
    • To sort by time starred, click Recently starred.
  1. To change the primary list of a starred task, click the task and then List and then the desired list from the drop down.

Tips:

  • You can't manually reorder starred tasks in the starred view.
  • You can find your completed starred tasks in their primary lists.

Check pending tasks on a list

  1. Go to Gmail, Calendar, Chat, Drive, or a file in Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides.
  2. On the right, click Tasks Tasks.
  3. Select a list.
  4. Sort the list by due date. Uncompleted tasks appear at the top, under “Past.”

Tips:

  • Tasks with dates also appear in Google Calendar.
  • A list of all uncompleted tasks from the last 30 days is available in your current day on Google Calendar.

Find or hide completed tasks

  1. Go to Gmail, Calendar, Chat, Drive, or a file in Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides.
  2. On the right, click Tasks Tasks.
  3. Select an option:
    • To find completed tasks, next to "Completed," click the Up arrow Up arrow.
    • To hide completed tasks, click the Down arrow .
