BigCommerce: Set up your Google tag

You can measure behavioral data about your site with Google Ads and Google Analytics. Follow the steps in this article to set up a tag for your Google Ads or Google Analytics account. Learn more about Installing your tag with a website builder or CMS.

Before you begin

You can integrate your BigCommerce account with Google Ads or Google Analytics for free. To set up integration, you’ll need a valid BigCommerce account.

The instructions for setting up the Google tag are different for tag IDs starting with "AW-" (usually, Google Ads accounts) and tag IDs starting with "G-" (usually, Google Analytics properties). Follow the instructions below that correspond with your tag.

If you have a tag starting with "AW-"

Note: Your storefront must be set up and launched to integrate your site with a Google tag.

  1. Go to apps.
  2. Open Marketplace and click the BigCommerce.com/Apps button to open the Marketplace.
  3. Search for “Google Ads and Listings” in the search box and click the Ads and Listings on Google app.
  4. On the next screen, click "Get this app".
  5. Click Log in to sign in to your store.
  6. Click Install.
  7. Review the terms, check the box, and click Confirm.This animation guides you through step 1 of 3 of setting up your Google Tag in BigCommerce.
  8. Now it's time to set up the app. Start by selecting your storefront and country the click "Continue".
    • Note: Your storefront must be set up and launched to proceed.
  9. Next, click Sign in with Google. This will open a popup window to grant the necessary permissions.
  10. Once connected, click Continue.
  11. Choose a Google Merchant account connected to your Google Account from the drop down and click Connect. You can also create a new Merchant Center account by clicking Create new account.
  12. Once connected, click Continue.
  13. Choose a Google Ads account connected to your Google Account from the drop down and click Connect. You can also create a new Ads account by clicking Create new account.
  14. Once connected, click Activate channel.This animation guides you through step 2 of 3 of setting up your Google Tag in BigCommerce.
  15. Your account in now configured for Google Ads.

If you have a tag starting with "G-"

  1. Login to your BigCommerce account.
  2. Once logged in, click Settings on the left hand panel. This animation guides you through step 3 of 3 of setting up your Google Tag in BigCommerce.
  3. Scroll down on the list of settings list and choose Data Solutions.
  4. Click Connect on the same row as “Google Analytics“ under “Web Analytics".
  5. Paste your Google tag in the box provided and press Connect.
  6. You have now successfully deployed your Google tag to your BigCommerce site.
