Change your payment method during checkout

To make purchases from the Google Store, you must add a valid form of payment.

Change your Google Store payment method

You can update the payment method set up for Google Store before you make a purchase. Once you make a purchase, you can no longer change your payment method.

  1. On Google Store, go to your Account settings.
  2. Next, go to 'Payment method' and select Edit payment methods.
  3. Make changes to your form of payment.

Tip: You can find your Google Store and Google Play credit balances on your Account settings page.

Accepted payment methods
If you're signed in to your Google Account, you can choose a saved payment method, edit it or add another.

These forms of payment are acceptable when you're signed in to your Google Account:

  • American Express (except Poland and India)
  • Discover (US only)
  • Google payments centre balance (US and UK only)
  • Google Store credit: Everywhere that Google Store operates except:
    • Korea
    • Mexico
    • Puerto Rico
  • Google Store Financing
  • JCB (Japan and US only)
  • Mastercard
  • PayPal:
    • Australia
    • Belgium
    • Canada
    • Czechia
    • Denmark
    • Finland
    • France
    • Germany
    • Ireland
    • Italy
    • Japan
    • Netherlands
    • Norway
    • Poland
    • Spain
    • Sweden
    • United Kingdom
    • United States
  • Visa
  • Visa Electron (outside the US only)
  • Virtual credit cards (VCC)
  • For India:
    • EMI or equated monthly instalment
    • Rupay
    • UPI or Unified Payments Interface

Tip: If you have trouble with your credit or debit card, refer to fix your declined payment method.

Tip: If you'd like to use a form of payment from a different country or region, you can create a new payment profile.

Why cards get declined

Your card can get declined for many reasons:

  • Card not activated: Activate your card.
  • Card not enabled for online transactions: Ensure that your card is enabled for online or e-commerce transactions. This can be done on the bank's website or app.
  • Insufficient funds: Make sure that you have sufficient funds.
  • Mistake with the card number: Enter your card number again.
  • Expired credit card: If your card hasn't expired, make sure that you enter the right date.
  • Mistake with the security code: Double-check the code and enter it again.
