Transfer Preferred Care ownership

In the US:

Eligibility note: Plan ownership transfers are only applicable for devices purchased before February 24, 2025, and covered by a 2-year Preferred Care plan. Monthly Preferred Care plans are not transferable.

Eligible devices:

You can transfer 2-year Preferred Care plans for the following devices:

  • Pixel 6
  • Pixel 6 Pro
  • Older Pixel phones (any Pixel released before the Pixel 6a)

How to transfer:

To request a transfer, visit the My Device Protect page.

Important restrictions:

  • Location: Transfers are only valid within the same country or region where the phone was originally purchased. For example, a Preferred Care plan purchased in the US cannot be transferred to someone in Canada.
  • Same device: Preferred Care covers only the specific phone it was purchased for. You cannot transfer the plan to a different device.
  • Ineligible devices: You cannot transfer Preferred Care plans for the following:
    • Pixel 6a and newer Pixel phones
    • Preferred Care Monthly Coverage plans

Get a refund for a returned phone

If you return your phone to Google within 30 days of purchase, we’ll automatically cancel your Preferred Care plan. We'll also refund you the full price of the plan.
