Capture screenshots and video clips

While you play a game on Stadia, you can keep track of your favorite moments by capturing screenshots and video clips using the Stadia Controller or a computer keyboard. You can view, manage, and download these captures at stadia.com or in the Stadia app Stadia icon.

Storing your captures

Captured screenshots and clips are stored automatically on your Stadia account. With a Stadia Pro subscription, you can store up to 500 clips and unlimited screenshots. Without a subscription, you can store up to 100 clips and unlimited screenshots.

Note: If you're a Stadia Pro subscriber with more than 100 clips and your subscription lapses, you won't lose access to any of your existing clips.

Capture screenshots and clips

You can capture screenshots or video clips while playing on a TV with Chromecast Ultra, on stadia.com, or in the Stadia app Stadia icon.

  • To capture a screenshot:
    • If you're using a Stadia Controller, press the Capture button Capture button.
    • If you're using a computer keyboard, press F12.
    • If you're using the touch gamepad preview on your mobile device, tap Capture Capture button.
  • To capture a video clip of the last 30 seconds of gameplay:
    • If you're using a Stadia Controller, press and hold the Capture button Capture button for 1 second.
    • If you're using a computer keyboard, press and hold F12 for 1 second.
    • If you're using the touch gamepad preview on your mobile device, tap and hold Capture Capture button for 1 second.

Voice chat and video clips

When you capture a video clip and your audio options are set to “Game chat”:

  • The video clips will include game chat voices, including your own voice and the voices of other players, for its duration.
    • Note: Video clips saved before early November 2020 will not include your own voice, but will include the voices of other players from your game chat.
  • Voices from party chat will not be included. Learn more about types of Stadia voice chat.
  • If you don’t want voices included in your video clip, you can mute yourself and others before your gameplay is captured or change your voice channel in your audio options.

View your captures

You can view the screenshots and clips you've captured:

In the Stadia app

  1. On your mobile device, open the Stadia app Stadia icon.
  2. On the Home screen, scroll down to "Captures".
  3. Swipe left and right to scroll through recent captures, or tap See all.
  4. Tap the capture you want to view.

On stadia.com

  1. Sign into your account on stadia.com.
  2. Scroll down to view your recent captures, or select See all.
  3. Select the capture you want to view.
Video clips might not be available to view in full resolution immediately after you record them. If "Processing" appears on your video clip, wait a while and then try watching it again.

Share your captures

You can share your captures from the Stadia app Stadia icon or on stadia.com. Anyone can select the link you share and view your screenshot or clip, even if they don't have a Stadia account.

Download your captures

You can download your Stadia video clips and screenshots on stadia.com:

  1. Sign into your account on stadia.com.
  2. On the Home screen, scroll down to "Captures".
  3. Find a recent capture, or select See all.
  4. Select the capture you want to download.
  5. In the top right, select Download Download icon.

Note: Video clips are saved in the .webm format and screenshots are saved in the .jpg format. You'll get a full resolution version of the file even if you download it while it is still "Processing".

A note about video clip playback

The maximum resolution and dynamic range of your captured video clips are determined on the device where you take the capture. If you play back a video clip on a different device, the clip's visual quality might be affected.

For example, if you capture a video clip during a 4K HDR game session on a TV, then download the clip onto a computer that doesn't support 4K or HDR, visual issues may occur during playback. Below is a list of recommended media players for playing back captured video clips.

Delete your captures

You can delete any screenshots or video clips you've captured:

In the Stadia app

  1. On your mobile device, open the Stadia app Stadia icon.
  2. On the Home screen, scroll down to "Captures".
  3. Swipe left and right to scroll through recent captures, or tap See all.
  4. Tap the capture you want to delete.
  5. Tap Delete Delete icon and then Delete.

Note: If you delete a capture that you shared, its shared link will automatically be disabled.

On stadia.com

  1. Sign into your account on stadia.com.
  2. Scroll down to your captures.
  3. Click on the capture you want to delete.
  4. Click Delete Delete icon and then Delete.
