Change your Stadia settings

All of the changes you make to your settings, except to Performance settings, will apply everywhere you're signed into Stadia. For example, if you change your privacy settings in the Stadia mobile app, they'll apply when you play on a TV with Chromecast Ultra and on stadia.com using Google Chrome.

Changes to Performance settings, which affect visual and audio quality, will only take effect on the device you set them on.

You can manage these settings on your Stadia account:

Purchases & subscriptions

In this section, your active or canceled subscriptions will appear at the top of the screen. Under "Transaction history" or "Purchase history", you can view a list of your transactions, including:

  • Purchases
  • Returns and pending returns
  • Redemptions
  • Chargebacks

Select a transaction to get more information about it. You can also select Get support or Request refund.

Stadia Name & avatar

You cannot change your Stadia Name in the Stadia app Stadia icon or on stadia.com. To change your Stadia Name, contact us.

You can change your Stadia avatar as often as you'd like. To change it, just tap a new avatar.

Friends & privacy

You can choose "Who can send you friend requests", "Who can see details about you", and "Who can send you game invites". Next to each setting, choose from the following options:

  • Friends (details and invites only)
  • Friends & their friends
  • All players
  • No one

Under "Games using your friends list", you can also choose to allow specific publishers to access your friends list. Next to each publisher, turn the switch on or off.

If you get an error asking you to refresh your account access, open the Stadia app Stadia icon on your mobile device. Under "Account access errors", tap Refresh access.

Learn more about privacy settings.

Family

If you create a family group, you can manage your family payment method in the Stadia family dashboard. Any supervised family members you add to the group can request to purchase Stadia games with the family payment method. You can also approve or deny their purchase or play requests, adjust their privacy settings, and more.

Performance

Note: To reduce load on the internet, we plan to roll out a temporary feature that changes the default data usage setting for active Stadia Pro subscribers from Up to 4K to Up to 1080p. If you’re a Pro subscriber, you can change this setting back to Up to 4K.

Performance settings let you adjust the visual of your games. Based on your internet connection and data usage preferences, you can specify a maximum resolution of Up to 4K (Pro subscribers only), Up to 1080p, or Up to 720p. With a Stadia Pro subscription, you can also toggle features like HDR (High Dynamic Range).

Performance settings only take effect on the device you set them on. While playing a game, Stadia will automatically adjust your resolution (up to the limit you specified) for the best experience based on your internet connection. After you change your settings, they'll only take effect the next time you launch a game that's compatible with them.

To choose your performance options:

On stadia.com

  1. Sign into your account at stadia.com.
  2. In the top right, select your avatar.
  3. Select Stadia settings and then Performance.
  4. Choose your performance options.

On your mobile device

  1. On your mobile device, open the Stadia app Stadia icon.
  2. In the top right, tap your avatar.
  3. Tap Performance.
  4. Choose your performance options.

On a TV using Chromecast Ultra

While you’re playing a game on your TV:

  1. On your Stadia Controller, press the Stadia button Stadia button.
  2. Select Options.
  3. Under "Performance", choose your performance options.

Experiments

The "Experiments" menu appears in the Stadia app Stadia icon. It lets you toggle features on or off, such as allowing gameplay on your non-officially supported Android device. The setting will only take effect on the device you set it on.

Blocked players

This menu only appears on stadia.com. Here you can view or Unblock any of your currently blocked players.

If you block a player, they'll be unable to send you friend requests or chat invites. They'll also be removed from your friends list, but you might still be able to see them in party chats or in some games.

Note: To block a player, go to that player's profile.

Google Assistant

You can turn Google Assistant on or off in the Stadia app Stadia icon. Turning it on lets you use the Assistant button Assistant button on your Stadia Controller when playing on a TV with Chromecast Ultra.

When you turn on Google Assistant, you’ll be asked to review service and privacy disclosures. You can then choose to Allow or Skip the Assistant personalization.

After you've turned on Assistant, tap More settings to:

  • Change the Assistant device name
  • Turn Personal results on or off.
  • Unlink Stadia from the Assistant.
