Before you begin
- To set up your Stadia Controller, you'll need to install the Stadia app on your iPhone or iPad (iOS® version 11.0 or greater). Learn more about using a controller with your iOS device.
- To play games on Stadia using a TV, you need a Chromecast Ultra, a supported Android TV device, a Google TV device such as Chromecast with Google TV, or a compatible smart TV. Make sure that your device is set up and connected to a Wi-Fi network or Ethernet.
- Note: Some devices have an Ethernet port on their power adapter. If possible, use an Ethernet cable to plug your device into your Wi-Fi router for the best performance. You can also purchase an adapter for Chromecast with Google TV if you don't have one.
- To play games on Stadia using your laptop or PC, you'll need to install the latest version of Google Chrome on your computer.
- Your Stadia Controller's battery must be charged.
Connect your Stadia Controller to Wi-Fi
The Stadia app uses Location access, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth® to find and set up your controller. If any of these are turned off when you begin setup, you'll be asked to turn them on during the setup process.
- To turn on your Stadia Controller, press and hold the Stadia button
for 2 seconds until it vibrates.
- On your mobile device, open the Stadia app

- In the top right, tap the controller icon
.
- Select your controller from the list.
- When your controller starts vibrating, tap Yes
Continue.
- Tap Connect to [network name], where [network name] is the Wi-Fi network your mobile device is connected to.
- To connect your Stadia Controller to a different network, tap Choose a different network.
- Enter your Wi-Fi password, then tap Connect to Wi-Fi
Done.
- Your controller will download and install an update. You don't need to wait for the update to finish before continuing.
- Tap OK.
Link your Stadia Controller to a screen
You can use your Stadia Controller to play games on a TV or supported streaming device, on a computer using Google Chrome, or on a supported mobile device.
Link to Chromecast Ultra
- After you set up your account, make sure that your Chromecast Ultra is powered on, connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the Stadia Controller, and plugged into an HDMI port on your TV.
- Note: You can also cast Stadia to your TV from the Stadia app

- On your TV, Select the HDMI input that your Chromecast Ultra is connected to.
- On your Stadia Controller, press and hold the Stadia button
until the controller vibrates and the button blinks white.
- Find the linking code on the TV screen.
- Enter the linking code displayed on the TV screen using the Stadia Controller's d-pad and face buttons (
,
,
and
).
Link to Google TV or Android TV
- Set up your Stadia Controller on the same Wi-Fi network as your Google TV or Android TV.
- Note: If your Google TV or Android TV device is separate from your TV, select the HDMI input on your TV that's connected to it.
- Download the Stadia app on Google TV or Android TV, then use your TV remote or a connected Bluetooth controller to launch it.
- On the Stadia home screen, select your avatar at the top right.
- Select the controller icon

- On your Stadia Controller, press and hold the Stadia button
until the controller vibrates twice and the button blinks white.
- Use the Stadia Controller's d-pad and face buttons (

,
, and
) to enter the linking code displayed on the TV screen.
Note: If you connect a Bluetooth controller to Google TV or Android TV, you can use it to play games on Stadia without a linking code.
Link your controller to a laptop or desktop computer using Google Chrome
To play Stadia games using the Google Chrome browser, you can link your Stadia Controller to your computer wirelessly or with a USB cable.
- Make sure that your computer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Stadia Controller.
- Using Google Chrome, go to stadia.com and sign into your Stadia account.
- Link your Stadia Controller wirelessly to your computer. You can also use a USB-C® cable, like the one that came with your Stadia Controller, to connect the controller to an open USB port on your computer.
Link to LG® webOS TVs (2020 or later model year)
- Set up your Stadia Controller.
- Follow these instructions to install the Stadia app
on your TV.
- Launch the Stadia app
sign into your Google account.
- On the Stadia home screen, select your avatar at the top right.
- Select the controller icon

- On your Stadia Controller, press and hold the Stadia button
until the controller vibrates twice and the button blinks white.
- Use the Stadia Controller's d-pad and face buttons (

,
, and
) to enter the linking code displayed on the TV screen.
Note: If your TV supports Bluetooth, you can connect a compatible Bluetooth gamepad to your TV and play Stadia games without a linking code.
Link your controller to a compatible mobile device using the Stadia app
You can use your Stadia Controller to play games on compatible mobile devices using the Stadia app, or you can play using your device's touch screen.
- Link your Stadia Controller wirelessly to your mobile device, or connect it with a USB-C cable.
- On your mobile device, open the Stadia app

- Optional: If you don't connect a controller, you can use the touch gamepad to play games using your mobile device's touch screen.
Critical software updates to your Stadia Controller
When critical software updates are released for your Stadia Controller, they will be applied automatically when it connects to Wi-Fi. Here's how it works:
- Press and hold the Stadia button
for one second to turn on your Stadia Controller.
- The Stadia button will slowly blink white for approximately 12 seconds while it connects to Wi-Fi.
- The Stadia button will blink orange and white while it applies the critical update. During this time you won't be able to use your controller.
You can also check if your Stadia Controller software is being updated:
- On your mobile device, open the Stadia app

- Tap the Controller icon.
After any updates finish, your Stadia Controller will restart and the Stadia button will slowly blink white again for approximately 12 seconds while it reconnects to Wi-Fi.
