How to use Socratic

Learn how to get help and explore results in Socratic with this step-by-step guide.

Step 1: Download and open the app

Socratic is available in the App Store on iOS. Follow these instructions on your iOS device to get started:

  1. Install the Socratic app.

  2. After you install the app, open it.

  3. Sign in with your Google Account.

Step 2: Ask for help

Socratic makes it easy for you to ask about whatever you need help with. Review the following steps to learn more:

  1. Decide how to ask Socratic for help:

    • Take a photo of a problem. Good for complex problems that are difficult to type or say out loud.

      • You can also take a photo of a textbook page or teacher handout. This lets you access alternative explanations for the same concepts that are covered in those class materials.

    • Use your voice to ask a question. Useful to quickly ask anything that you're confused about.

    • Type a question. Good for quick questions that are easily typed.

  1. Use your phone's camera, keyboard, or microphone to ask for help.

Step 3: View the results

Socratic presents concept overviews, explanatory steps, video walkthroughs, and more to help you better understand the question. To find out more, learn how Socratic presents the resources and explanations it finds.

Step 4: Use Explorer to browse topics

With the Explorer, you can browse subjects and related topics to discover even more concepts related to your area of study. Follow these instructions to use the Explorer:

  1. Before you enter a question, scroll down to enter Explorer mode.

  2. Tap a subject, such as Biology or Fiction, to see a list of topics related to that subject.

  3. Tap a topic to see Explainers that talk about the concept in depth.
